Situation:
My wife is very angry with me from the detachment and neglect of the past 5 or 6 years. I was angry, lost and confused. I hurt her by my detachment and neglect. It got to where she could not take it any more. She told me that she did not want to be married to me any more. This devastated me and it was a slap to the face that woke up, albeit to late.
She went to a lawyer seeking a legal separation, which is not available here. So she went ahead and filed for divorce. She tells me she still loves me. I am working to return to the loving husband I was. I am in therapy and am working “The Love Dare.†I am serious about the change I need to make; it benefits my wife, our marriage and me. I believe that if I fail to follow through, to be the loving husband that I can and should be then she should divorce me because she does deserve the happiness and joy that has been missing from her life. I ask that she hold off on the divorce to allow for time to see if I am growing or if I fail.
Request:
I take God at His Word. I trust Jesus Christ for my salvation. Lord Jesus, I’m a sinner, but You have shown Your love for me by dying to forgive my sins, and You have proven Your power to save me from death by Your resurrection. Lord, change my heart, and save me by Your Grace.
I pray for my wife’s heart. I pray for communication, trust, and understanding and desire for God to work in my wife’s life and in our marriage. I pray for my wife and for her needs, the release from pain, both physical and emotional, her happiness and joy, her confidence. Thank God for giving me the privilege of loving this one special person unconditionally, the way He loves both of us. I pray for God’s love to flow through me to my wife.
Lord reveal anything in my own heart that is threatening oneness with my wife. I pray that You will do the same for her. I am determined to guard my wife’s secrets and to pray for them. I am determined to pray through my areas of wrongdoing. I pray that my wife forgives me and stops divorce proceedings and begins to work with me to heal and strengthen our marriage into the union that God intended. I ask for God’s forgiveness. In Jesus Christ’s name I pray, Amen.
