This is the account of Ex 17:8 recording how the Intercession of Moses, Aaron & Hur by PRAYER caused Joshua to overcome The Amalekites in Battle:
"The Amalekites came and attacked the Israelites at Rephidim. Moses said to Joshua, 'Choose some of our men and go out to fight the Amalekites. Tomorrow I will stand on top of the hill with the staff of God in my hands.' 10 So Joshua fought the Amalekites as Moses had ordered, and Moses, Aaron and Hur went to the top of the hill. 11 As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning. 12 When Moses’ hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up—one on one side, one on the other—so that his hands remained steady till sunset. 13 So Joshua overcame the Amalekite army with the sword."
"Therefore, I want people everywhere to pray, lifting up holy hands without being angry at each other or being argumentative" (1 Tim 2:8).
Lifting up the hands is synonymous with prayer in the Old and New Testament (Ps 63:3-4; 1 Tim 2:8).
When Moses held up his hands in prayer, people prayed in unity, real Israelites defeated real Amalekites.
When Moses got tired, real Amalakites defeated real Israelites.
When Aaron and Hur joined Moses, they held up his hands as prayer leader and thus had corporate prayer (2 or 3 gather together Jesus is directly involved (Matt 18:20). When we pray for others, the evil is pushed off their lives so they can enter in through the Door and be more triumphant for God's Kingdom. When we stop that, things can go downhill for the others for whom we had prayed.
Most people try to exempt themselves from this reality with the sovereignty of God. In the sovereignty of God, God has said to pray without ceasing, so it's not his sovereignty, it's disobedience, weakness or unbelief in God's goodness and faithfulness to answer prayer.
Most people never pray for the church or the nation, other world affairs or the Kingdom of God (Souls, Pastors, Evangelists, Musicians, Cell group leaders, the persecuted church, etc... Most believers rarely post for anything more than "pressing needs").
Most Christians pray less for the Kingdom of God to spread and for conversions to Jesus than Muslims pray for The spread of Islam.
Most Christians rarely if ever fast, most muslims do 30 days in a row every year -- during ramadan...
What type of Christian do you want to be seen as when eternity shows our use or negligence of "the weapons of our warfare which are not of flesh and blood but are mighty in God to the pulling down of strongholds, false opinions and arguments that are contrary to the knowledge of God" (2 Cor 10:4-5).
Do we pray for The Whole Christian Church Worldwide? Do we pray for the peace of Jerusalem (Ps 122:6)? Do we pray for the Salvation of Family members and friends? Do we pray for Government, for "kings and all in Authority?" (1 Tim 2:1-4). Or do we disobey God because we don't like the President? Do we know that our prayers in Jesus' Name for others can mean the difference of physical and spiritual life or death?
May believers pray for the protection of Christians during ramadan (Especially in Israel, Syria, Egypt, China, North Korea, Russia, but even in the "free countries" like Europe and The States coming up starting Friday morning, May 26th to Sunday, June 25th, "lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil," (Matt 6:13), in Jesus' name.
