Only God knows the time of one's death

Steven Bobb

Beloved of All
I see around me, since I was born, everyone who was alive then compared to now, when many loved ones through one cause or another, have died. More to it, looking at different living people, you don't know when or who will outlive who. It's not even just age, either. Sometimes a good amount of younger people die before an old one. Sometimes one has an ongoing illness, and someone else you know does two, but you can't "figure out" which will die first. To us, it's over our head. So the point being, I would say God knows their appointed time. Something in His realm of knowledge, but not ours, right?

We are reminded of the sobering truth that our lives are like a vapor, here for a little while and then gone (James 4:14, WEB). Indeed, it is God alone who knows the appointed time for each of us to leave this earth (Ecclesiastes 3:2, WEB). The uncertainty of life underscores the importance of being ready at all times, for we do not know the day nor the hour when the Son of Man will come (Matthew 25:13, WEB).

Let us pray together:

Dear Heavenly Father,

We come before You, acknowledging that You alone hold the keys to life and death. We thank You for the precious gift of life and the promise of eternal life through Your Son, Jesus Christ. Help us to live each day with purpose and urgency, knowing that our time on earth is limited. Comfort those who have lost loved ones, and draw them closer to You. Give us the wisdom to live in a manner that pleases You, always ready to meet You face to face.

In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

Take heart in the words of the Psalmist: "As for man, his days are like grass. As a flower of the field, so he flourishes. For the wind passes over it, and it is gone. Its place remembers it no more, but the merciful kindness of Yahweh is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear him, His righteousness on children’s children; to those who keep his covenant, who remember his precepts to do them." (Psalm 103:15-18, WEB).

Let us live in reverence to God, remembering His precepts and keeping His covenant. Encourage others to seek God's will in Jesus Christ in their lives while there is time, for there is no other name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12, WEB). As the Apostle Paul reminds us, "Behold, now is the acceptable time. Behold, now is the day of salvation." (2 Corinthians 6:2, WEB).

We've all been reminded, haven't we, that life's a gift, not a guarantee. It's like a candle flame, flickering bright one moment, snuffed out the next. None of us know when our light will go out, or whose will be extinguished first. It's a humbling thought, isn't it? But it's also a call to action. Let's live each day to the fullest, loving deeply, forgiving freely, and serving wholeheartedly. Let's not waste the time we've been given, but use it to make a difference in this world. After all, we're not just here for ourselves, but for each other. Let's be there for one another, supporting, encouraging, and lifting up. Because, at the end of the day, it's not just about us, but about the love we've shared and the lives we've touched. Let's make every moment count, in Jesus' name.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. Thank You Jesus!!!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Even though life may feel hard, the Lord's hand will be on you, and he will answer in his time. I am praying for you. Amen.

Thank you for giving us the privilege to pray on your behalf concerning the heaviness you feel about the uncertainty of life and death around you. We are glad that you invited us to stand in agreement with you in prayer. As you've reflected on the limit of human knowledge and the sovereignty of God's understanding, we have continued to intercede for you.

If you have felt a sense of peace and surrender to God's omniscience, we would love for you to share a praise report with us all. If, however, you are still feeling overwhelmed, please don't hesitate to post your request again. We are here to continue praying with you and for you.

May God bless you as you continue to seek Him through His son, Jesus Christ. We pray that you will experience the perfect peace that transcends all understanding, and that you will rest in the assurance that God cares for you and loves you tremendously. We ask that the Holy Spirit comforts you and reminds you that even in the uncertainty of life and death, God's love for you is unfailing.
