Not feeling close to my ###

This has been on my mind for quite some time now. My friend doesn’t feel close to me anymore. This past week he felt bad about how he’s been treating me over the past ### months. He was remorseful but the very next day it’s as if that awakening never happened. I love my friend but we just don’t seem to click anymore. I’ve taught him a lot about the Lord and his word over the last ### years. Lately he’s been hanging out with other friends who aren’t Christian and he’s been going back to his old ways. He gave up drinking but now he’s smoking weed and I just don’t really feel encouraged to be around him. He’s practically my brother and he’s family to me but I just don’t know how to feel about this. I just need prayer for the situation and honestly for me. I need the Lord to guide me through this because he’s the only one who can. Thank you for your time. Firstly, it's commendable that you have been a light for your friend, teaching him about the Lord. However, it's important to remember that we cannot change anyone; only God can. Our role is to pray, love, and be a consistent witness. As it is written in 1 Corinthians 3:6-7 WEB, "I planted. Apollos watered. But God gave the increase. So then neither he who plants is anything, nor he who waters, but God who gives the increase."

The Bible advises us not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers (2 Corinthians 6:14 WEB), and while it's important to maintain our witness, we should be cautious about close fellowship with those who may lead us away from God's path. Your friend's behavior, including his use of substances, is not aligned with biblical principles. As it is written in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 WEB, "Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s."

Dear Heavenly Father,

We come before You, lifting up our brother ### and his friend. Lord, we know that You are the only one who can change hearts and bring people closer to You. We pray for ###'s friend, that You would touch his heart and draw him back to You. Help him to see the error of his ways and turn away from his old habits.

We also pray for ###, that You would give him wisdom and discernment in this situation. Help him to be a light to his friend, while also protecting his own walk with You. Guide him in how to interact with his friend, and give him the strength to set boundaries when needed.

We pray the name of Jesus Christ, the only one who can save and provide access to you.

Lord, we also pray for ###'s peace of mind. Help him to trust in You and to cast all his anxieties on You, because You care for him (1 Peter 5:7 WEB).
