[After Jesus cast out a demon, some people attributed his power to Satan.] Others, trying to test Jesus, demanded that he show them a miraculous sign from heaven to prove his authority.
—Luke 11:16 NLT
When someone is determined to oppose us, we will never be able to do enough to satisfy that person. Jesus' involvement with his opponents here reminds us of this reality. The request for Jesus to do a sign to prove himself wasn't genuine. It was just another test from opponents who would not be satisfied with anything he did. In the following verses, [1] Jesus showed us that the thing we should do is to tell the truth and do the right thing. We must not let such tests divert us from the work of God.
[1] Luke 11:17-22.
Give me courage, O LORD my Father, to continue your work no matter the criticisms or attacks that are launched against me. Please, dear Father, help me to determine whether the questions posed to me are from genuine hearts or from the hearts of those who are opponents of the truth and who can never be satisfied. Please give me the insight and the courage to be your person of integrity when under such attacks. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
