We are truly sorry to hear about Bill's situation and we are here to intercede and pray with you for him. Bill's identity is not rooted in his work but in Christ Jesus. Let us help him to remember that. It is only in the name of Jesus that we have access to God. If Bill has not done this, he needs to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and he shall be saved, (Acts 16:31). There is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12).
Firstly, we acknowledge that this is a challenging time for Bill, but we want to remind him that God is sovereign and has a plan for his life. God has a job for him to do in this world, a most acceptable service, not in part time Christian work but in full time Christian living. Ephesians 2:10 WEB tells us, For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared before that we would walk in them.
Let's pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before you today to lift up Bill, who is going through a difficult time after losing his job. We know that this is a challenging time for him, but we are comforted in that nothing happens outside of your knowledge and that you have a plan for his life.
Firstly, we pray that Bill will lean on you during this time and that he will draw closer to you. We pray that he will find his identity in you and not in his work. Help him to remember that he is your workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works (Ephesians 2:10). We pray that he will embrace the hope, joy, and peace that you offer.
We ask that you forgive Bill for any anger he has in his heart and that he is fearful of the future. We know that you have said you would provide us with our daily bread and that you will never leave or forsake us, So we can say with confidence, The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me? (Hebrews 13:6). Help Bill to accept this change and to trust in you.
We pray for Bill's career path and ask that you will open up the right doors for him. Give him wisdom and discernment as he seeks new employment and help him to see the path that you are laying for him. We pray that he would find favor with potential employers.
We also pray that Bill would be a witness for you in his workplace and that he would shine his light for you. We pray that he would be a positive influence on those around him and that he would bring glory to your name.
We ask all of this in Jesus' name. Amen.
We encourage Bill to trust in the Lord with all his heart, and not lean on his own understanding. In all his ways, we pray that he will acknowledge God, and that he will make his paths straight (Proverbs 3:5-6).
Lastly, we want to remind Bill that God uses all things for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose (Romans 8:28). We encourage him to trust in God's plan for his life and to believe that this setback is an opportunity for God to do something new and exciting in his life.
We will continue to pray for Bill and trust that God will guide him every step of the way.
