We are so glad to hear that your son is on a path to recovery and is attending church and college. It is our privilege to join you in prayer for him during this crucial time in his life.
Firstly, we want to remind you of God's promises in 2 Corinthians 5:17: "Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new." This is our prayer for your son, that he will fully surrender his life to Jesus Christ and become a new creation in Him.
We also pray for his continued recovery from addiction. In 1 Corinthians 10:13, God promises: "No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it." We pray that God will provide your son with the strength to overcome any temptations and remain clean and sober. Because this is a spiritual problem, we need to address it with spiritual solutions.
Furthermore let us point out that the Bible states in James 4:7 "Be subject therefore to God. But resist the devil, and he will flee from you." We need to understand that this is a real battle against a real enemy. And if it is a spiritual enemy who is battling against us, then we need to use spiritual weapons to resist. What are spiritual weapons? The Bible states in 2 Corinthians 10:4 "For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds." We need to be in constant prayer and in the word. We need to be in a continual state of repentance. We need to speak the word of God to resist the devil. Also we need to be aware that God is the only one that can deliver us from these strongholds. And we need to trust that he will.
We also pray for his spiritual growth, that he will draw near to God and that God will draw near to him. As it says in James 4:8, "Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded." We pray that your son will commit his life fully to Jesus, grow in intimacy with Him, and experience the transforming power of the Holy Spirit.
Lastly, we pray for his health and well-being. In 3 John 1:2, the apostle John writes, "Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, even as your soul prospers." We pray that your son will stay healthy physically, emotionally, and spiritually as he navigates this new phase of his life.
Let us pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You today, lifting up this young man to You. Thank You, Lord, for bringing him out of the darkness of addiction and into the light of Your love and mercy. We pray that he will continue to walk in Your light and come to know You more intimately each day.
Lord, we ask that You will give him the strength to overcome any temptations that come his way. Help him to stay clean and sober, and to live a life that honors You. We also pray for his spiritual growth, that he will draw near to You and that You will draw near to him. Help him to grow in his faith and become a strong, courageous man of God.
We also ask that You will bless him with good health and well-being. Help him to prosper in all things, even as his soul prospers. Guide him as he navigates this new phase of his life, and give him the wisdom and discernment he needs to make godly choices.
In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
