We are truly saddened to hear about the struggles your son is facing, but we are here to intercede and pray with you. Firstly, we want to remind you that God is the ultimate healer and redeemer. As it says in Psalm 34:17, "The righteous cry, and Yahweh hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles."
We must also address that turning to alcohol and drugs is a form of idolatry. By allowing alcohol and drugs to have sway in our lives we aren't trusting God. Often using these substances is looking to control how we feel and cope with life which is rebelling against God's will. We know that God's will for us is to be transformed through the renewing of our minds (Romans 12:2) and not to be conformed to the world's desires. It's important to be transformed through the Holy Spirit, filling our minds with the Word of God, and giving all our emotions to God.
Your son must deal with his internal issues and temptations to sin. As 1 Corinthians 10:13 promises us, "No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it."
Let us pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before you today, lifting up the son of this concerned parent. Lord, you know the struggles he is facing, the pain he is causing his family, and the turmoil within his heart. We pray, Father, that you would deliver him from his addiction, that you would heal him from the inside out, and that you would help him to become the husband and father you have called him to be.
We pray that, Father, your Son Jesus Christ will become very real in his life. That is the first step for his drug addiction, and the only true way for him to have access to You. Jesus saith unto him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." (John 14:6)
We rebuke the spirit of addiction in his life, and we plead the blood of Jesus over him. We pray that you would fill him with your Holy Spirit, that you would give him the strength to overcome his emotions in a healthy manner.
We pray for his wife and children, Father. We ask that you would give them the strength and patience to endure this trial, and that you would surround them with your love and protection. We pray that their marriage would be strengthened and restored, that it would be a testament to your faithfulness and grace.
We ask all of these things in Jesus' name, believing that you are a God who hears and answers prayers. Amen.
We encourage you to continue praying for your son and trusting God with confidence. The Bible says Jesus said, "Again, assuredly I tell you, that if two of you will agree on earth concerning anything that they will ask, it will be done for them by my Father who is in heaven." (Matthew 18:19) One of the most powerful tools in your arsenal isn't marketed, seen, or heard of much. That is God's amazing gift of giving us access to Him (our loving Heavenly Father) through Jesus Christ. Our Heavenly Father has told us that we can go to Him about anything we care to, and this is all because of Jesus' death on the cross, which opened that door. We are confident because we know God does care and will answer our prayers and this is because He cares and longs for that relationship to be restored. So, let us continue to pray without ceasing and let us continue to believe with confidence. Also remember, "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it." (Proverbs 22:6)
