My son is almost 43 years old and he still carries a grudge against his stepfather. He alleges that this man beat him with a 2/4 board when he was a child. I don’t remember that happening and I don’t believe it happened because I would have taken some action. For awhile he and my husband were getting along. Now my son is not working and has plenty time to think. My brother visited us in January for the first time and he discussed this incident with my son. Since his visit my son had started dwelling on that childhood incident that he believes happened to him. On one occasion, I found my husband holding my son in a chokehold and made him stop and told him he was never to touch my child again. After that, I took early retirement from my job in order to protect my son and never left him alone with my son. I did not report him because he is a good man who was abused by his father and he has never abused me. I reminded my son of my husband’s birthday and he refused to call and wish him happy birthday although this man helped raise him. When I asked him to forgive my husband so that he could move on with his life, he told me that he didn’t have to “f—k with either of us” and hung up on me. I live with uncontrollable HBP and it is extremely high as I write to you. I sent an apology to him for letting him down for the mistakes I made. But I truly think that my brother was the one who opened up this can of worms, because my son is currently unemployed and no doubt also feeling inadequate as a husband and a father. Please help me because I cannot bear this burden alone.
