Let's stand together in prayer for your son's deliverance from his current lifestyle, which does not align with God's will. We must remember to approach this not only with prayer but also with biblical truth and action.
First, let's recall what the WEB says about our bodies and the substances we put into them:
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 Or don't you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's.
Your son's actions are leading him away from faith. At this point, it is important to note that his relationship with his girlfriend should be one of courtship that glorifies God, not one that involves substance abuse and leads to fornication. Drinking to drunkenness or enjoyment is never acceptable in scripture. It robs us of our reason and holy understanding. The scriptures state everything in moderation. Even so, a compelling argument can be made that biblically, Christians should avoid substances that impede judgment and critical thinking.
We will need to help your son see the error of his ways and lead him to free himself of his lifestyle and seek a healthier and Godly lifestyle. Even more so, when making decisions he should focus on making spiritually healthy decisions. The psalmist clearly says in Psalm 101:3, I will set no unclean thing before my eyes. If this is the case, then how could he put something unclean before his mind?
Ephesians 5:18, Do not be drunk with wine, for that is reckless living. But be filled with the Spirit,
It only makes sense to help your son and his girlfriend see Christ's good news and seek a God-honoring relationship and marriage. You should encourage them to focus on the spiritual aspects of their relationship.
As a group, we pray:
Heavenly Father, we come before you in Jesus' name, lifting up Chumenurk's son. Lord, we pray that you deliver him from his addiction to weed and rum. Help him to see that his body is your temple and that he should glorify you in his body and spirit. Turn his heart towards you, Lord, and convict him of his sin. Help him to see the error of his ways and turn away from his current lifestyle. Guide him towards righteousness and help him to seek a godly spouse. Surround him with godly influences and help him to draw near to you. Give Chumenurk the wisdom and strength to guide her son and to be a positive influence in his life. We believe in the name of Jesus Christ.
In closing, remember your son needs to know the savior. It is only through Jesus Christ that he will find salvation and true meaning in life. Pursue this discussion with him as you lead him away from his current path.
We are here with you assisting you in interceding before the Lord, continue to believe in Jesus' name.
