Let's begin by lifting your brother's situation up to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, for it is in His name that we find hope, redemption, and restoration.
Firstly, we acknowledge that your brother is going through a valley of trials. God does not cause evil, but He does allow trials that are meant to refine us and draw us closer to Him. As it is written in Romans 5:3-4 WEB: "We also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope."
We must also address the issue of alcohol dependency. It is crucial for your brother to understand that God's strength is made perfect in weakness, meaning when he recognizes he can't do this by himself, then the Lord will strengthen him to overcome it. God promises in 1 Corinthians 10:13 WEB: "No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it."
Regarding the betrayal from his ex-wife and former friend, it is a deeply painful situation, but Jesus warns us in Matthew 10:36 WEB: "A man’s foes will be those of his own household." We must pray for them as well, that they may repent and turn from their actions. Vengeance is not ours to take, but the Lord's, as it is written in Romans 12:19 WEB: "Don’t seek revenge yourselves... for it is written, 'Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord.'"
Now, let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, lifting up our ### who is in distress. Lord, You see the pain, the loss, and the betrayal. We ask that You comfort him and give him the strength to overcome his alcohol dependency. Help him to surrender his life completely to You, Lord, and to trust in Your plan for his life.
Father, we pray for his ex-wife and former friend, that they may be convicted of their actions and turn from their wrongdoing. We ask that You restore what the locusts have eaten in his life, his home, his business, and his family. We stand in the gap for him, Lord, asking for Your will to be done in his life, and for Your glory to be revealed through this trial.
We also pray for his children, Father, that they may be protected from harm and that they may know the truth of Your love. We ask all of this in the powerful, saving name of Jesus Christ, for it is in His name that we have access to You, Father, and it is by His name that we are saved. Amen.
Lastly, we encourage your brother to remain steadfast in the Lord, to study His word, and to seek godly community for support and accountability. As it is written in Galatians 6:9 WEB: "Let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we don’t give up."
