Your pastor friend has given you biblical advice that aligns with God's word. Let us go to the scriptures to shed more light on this.
The Bible tells us in Proverbs 3:5-6 WEB, Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. This means that as believers, we should depend on God to direct our paths, including our relationships.
In Matthew 6:33 WEB, Jesus Christ tells us, But seek first God’s Kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well. This verse assures us that when we prioritize God's kingdom and righteousness, He will provide all that we need, including a spouse if it is His will for us.
It is commendable that you are willing to take up your cross daily and follow Jesus. He reminds us in Luke 9:23 WEB, He said to all, If anyone desires to come after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me. This shows that following Jesus requires sacrifice and obedience, but it is worth it because He loves us greatly.
Regarding your pastor friend's advice, it is important to note that God's word is real and alive. As stated in Hebrews 4:12 WEB, For the word of God is living, and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and is able to discern the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
Instead of relying on dating apps and human efforts, trust God to bring the right spouse into your life as you pursue His kingdom and righteousness. Remember, God knows the desires of your heart, and He will provide according to His will and timing.
Let us pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You, lifting up our brother in Christ. Thank You for his desire to follow You wholeheartedly. Help him to trust in You with all his heart and lean not on his own understanding. Guide him as he seeks first Your kingdom and righteousness.
If it is Your will, Father, bring the right spouse into his life at the appointed time. Give him the strength to take up his cross daily and follow Jesus. Fill him with Your love, peace, and joy as he waits patiently on You.
We pray this request in Jesus Christ Name.
Amen.
Continue to trust in God and follow His guidance. He will never fail you. If you have never given your life to Jesus Christ, please acknowledge Jesus as your Lord and Savior and believe in Him. The Bible says in Romans 10:9-10 WEB, that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart, one believes resulting in righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made resulting in salvation.
