We are truly sorry to hear about your boyfriend's illness and we are here to pray with you and offer some biblical guidance. First, we want to remind you that God cares about every detail of our lives, including our health and relationships. It's important to remember that boyfriend and girlfriend relationships should be a courtship process in preparation for marriage. We will be addressing your prayer request as a courtship situation. We will pray for healing and also discuss some biblical principles for your relationship going forward. We also need to discuss the importance of praying in Jesus' Name and explain this further.
First, let's turn to the Bible for encouragement and guidance. In Philippians 4:6-7 WEB it says, "In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus." This reminds us to bring all our concerns to God in prayer, and we can find God's peace even in difficult circumstances.
Regarding healing, in Matthew 8:17 WEB we read, "Thus the Word spoken through Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, saying, "He took our infirmities, and bore our diseases." This was fulfilled when Jesus during his ministry on earth healed many people and it continues today as He intercedes for us with the Father. We can pray confidently for healing for your boyfriend.
Let's pray together:
"Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, seeking Your healing and comfort for our brother. Lord, You know his condition and we ask that You touch his body, heal him from COVID-19, and restore his strength. We pray for Your peace to fill his heart and the heart of his girlfriend as they trust in You during this time of uncertainty. We will praise You for Your faithfulness and love, and we ask all of this in the precious name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen."
We also want to address the importance of praying in Jesus' name. In John 14:6 WEB Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me." and in John 14:13 WEB Jesus said, "Whatever you will ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son." It is only through Jesus Christ that we have access to God, and by praying in His name, we align ourselves with His will and acknowledge His lordship over our lives.
Lastly, we want to encourage you both to seek God's will for your relationship. As you journey together, keep in mind Philippians 1:9-10 WEB reminds us praying for a loved one, "And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and all discernment; so that ye may approve the things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and void of offence unto the day of Christ." Purity before marriage is important and remember 1 Corinthians 7:2 WEB says, "But because of sexual immoralities, let each man have his own wife, and let each woman have her own husband."
This does not mean that the man and woman are simply to have a relationship, but that they are to become a married couple. In the Bible, there is a distinction between a spouse, which is a lifelong committed relationship between one man and one woman, and other types of relationships. We need to keep in mind that the goal of a boyfriend and girlfriend relationship, also known as courtship, is to prepare for marriage. This can include getting to know each other better, seeking God's will together, and building a strong foundation for a lifelong commitment.
We pray that God will guide you both as you seek His will for your relationship and that He will bring healing and restoration to your boyfriend.
