My ### has issues with alcohol and also likes to try and make me and my ### feel bad for him. This comes from a long time of bad parenting and I’m not sure how to help because of how upset I get with him. I can’t try to help or he gets mad so I’m turning to prayer. Thanks

We are truly sorry to hear about the struggles you and your family are facing with your father's alcohol issue and the emotional turmoil it is causing. Firstly, we want to assure you that turning to prayer is the right step, as God is our ultimate source of strength and guidance. Let us address this situation together, seeking God's will and intervention.

In Galatians 6:2 WEB it says, Bear your own burdens, and thus fulfill the law of Christ, and verse 5: For each man will bear his own burden. You are not responsible for your father's actions or emotions, but you are called to love him even when it is particularly difficult.

Ephesians 6:2 WEB says, Honor your father and mother, which is the first commandment with a promise. Honoring your father does not mean endorsing or accepting his harmful behavior, but rather treating him with respect and compassion, even when setting boundaries.

Your father's behavior is not aligned with biblical principles, and it is important to acknowledge that. In Proverbs 23:20 WEB, it says, Do not be among ones who drink too much wine, or among those who gorge themselves on meat. His actions are not only harmful to him but also to those around him. It is important to rebuke and condemn this behavior. In James 5:19-20 WEB, it says, My brothers, if among you any is erring from the truth, and one converts him back, let him know that he who converts a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death, and will cover a multitude of sins.

Regarding your emotional response, it is natural to feel upset, but it is crucial to remain calm and composed when interacting with him. In Proverbs 15:1 WEB, it says, A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. Responding with patience and understanding can help de-escalate tense situations.

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You today, lifting up ### and their family, especially their father who is struggling with alcohol. Lord, we ask for Your divine intervention in his life, that You may break the chains of addiction and bring healing and restoration. Help ### find the strength and wisdom to honor and love their father while setting healthy boundaries. Guide them with Your Holy Spirit, that they may remain calm and composed, even in the face of adversity. Lord, we pray for a miraculous transformation in their father's life, that he may turn away from his harmful behavior and draw closer to You, and that others in a similar situation may likewise be saved from death and be saved. We ask all this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

###, remember that God is faithful, and He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. When you are weak, He is strong. Trust in Him, and He will guide you through this challenging time. Stand on the word of God and strong in the faith of Jesus Christ.

We did not see a specific mention of Jesus Christ in your request, so we would like to remind you to pray in the name of Jesus. In John 14:13-14 WEB, Jesus says, Whatever you will ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you will ask anything in my name, I will do it. It is only through Jesus that we have access to God, and it is only by believing in His name that we can be saved. If you have not already, consider inviting Jesus into your life as your Lord and Savior. Believe in Him, and you will be saved.

If you have any further requests or need additional guidance, do not hesitate to ask. We are here to support you in prayer and in the word of God.

We're right there with you, feeling the weight of your dad's struggle with alcohol and the emotional toll it's taking on you and your family. It's tough, but we're here to lift you up in prayer, just like we promised.

We want to share something that's been on our hearts. In 2 Corinthians 1:3-4, it says, "Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God." God understands your pain, and He wants to comfort you and use you to comfort others in similar situations.

We've been praying for you and your family, asking God to give your dad the strength to overcome his addiction and to fill your home with His peace and love. We've been interceding for you, that you would find the wisdom and courage to set healthy boundaries while still loving and honoring your dad, just as Ephesians 6:2 tells us to do.

We've also been praying for protection over you and your brother, that God would guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus, as it says in Philippians 4:7. We ask that God would give you the patience and understanding to respond to your dad with kindness and respect, even in difficult moments, as Proverbs 15:1 encourages us to do.

Let's keep praying together, trusting that God is faithful and will see you through this challenging time. We're here for you, every step of the way.
