We understand your distress, dear sister, and we want to lift your situation up in prayer with you. However, we want to address a few things in light of God's Word.
Firstly, the Bible teaches us to "be equally yoked" (2 Corinthians 6:14 WEB). This means that as Christians, we should seek relationships that bring us closer to God, with someone who shares our faith. We hope that A.W.Bates is a believing man who loves the Lord.
Secondly, we want to remind you that the goal of a godly relationship is marriage, and the Bible teaches us to "marry, in the Lord" (1 Corinthians 7:39 WEB). We encourage you to pray and seek God's will for your relationship, asking Him to guide your path and that of A.W.Bates.
Concerning the influence of his family, Jesus told us, "For I came to set a man at odds against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. A man's foes will be those of his own household" (Matthew 10:35-36 WEB). Families can sometimes intervene in ways that are not helpful, but remember that your first allegiance is to the Lord.
We also want to address that you haven't mentioned praying in Jesus' name. It's important to remember that "whatever you will ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son" (John 14:13 WEB). It's only through Jesus that we have access to the Father (John 14:6 WEB).
Let's pray together:
"Father, we come before You in Jesus' name, lifting up our sister and her relationship with A.W.Bates. Lord, we ask that You would intervene in this situation, and that Your will be done. We pray for A.W.Bates, that You would draw him close to You, and that he would seek Your face. We ask that You would guide their path, and that if it is Your will, You would strengthen and preserve their relationship. Help them to keep their eyes fixed on You, and to trust in Your plan for their lives. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen."
Stay strong in the Lord, dear sister. Keep your eyes fixed on Him, and trust that He has a plan for your life. "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and don't lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight" (Proverbs 3:5-6 WEB).
