Key Passage
Jesus answered, "If any of you has a sheep, and the sheep falls into a ditch on the Sabbath day, then you will take the sheep and help it out of the ditch. Surely a man is more important than a sheep. So the law {of Moses} allows people to do good things on the Sabbath day."
— Matthew 12:11-12 ERV (Read Full Text)
Key Thought
Any day set aside to honor God and to bring rest to his people must recognize the holy worship in blessing others. To rest on the Sabbath for the Jews did not mean to refrain from any form of labor, but it did mean to honor God on the day he set aside and to bless his children by letting them enjoy his rest and praise him. Similarly, everyday for Christians is to be a day to worship God and to serve others.
Prayer
Holy God, today I ask for your blessing to be upon those I love who need your blessing, grace and healing. I know you know them far better than I, but I ask you to bless them as I bring their names to your attention ... Father, lead me to those today that you want me to reach with the grace of Jesus. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
Related Scriptures
So all of you should live together in peace. Try to understand each other. Love each other like brothers. Be kind and humble. Don't do wrong to a person to pay him back for doing wrong to you. Or don't say something bad to a person to pay him back for saying something bad to you. But {ask God to} bless that person. Do this, because you yourselves were called to receive a blessing.
— 1 Peter 3:8-9
We must not become tired of doing good. We will receive our harvest {of eternal life} at the right time. We must not give up! When we have the opportunity to do good to any person, we should do it. But we should give special attention to the people that are in the family of believers (the church).
— Galatians 6:9-10
"If a man has 100 sheep, but one of the sheep becomes lost, then the man will leave the other 99 sheep on the hill. He will go to look for the lost sheep. Right? And if the man finds the lost sheep, the man is happier about that one sheep than about the 99 sheep that were never lost. I tell you the truth. In the same way, your Father in heaven does not want any of these little children to be lost.
