Humble Servant of All
I am writing to express the frustration that many of us in the younger generation feel regarding the current job market situation in Singapore. Despite our best efforts to gain the necessary qualifications, many of us find ourselves competing with an influx of foreign workers, while local opportunities remain scarce. The situation has led to a growing sense of disillusionment among young Singaporeans. Many are being forced to seek employment overseas, particularly in the UK, which ironically means turning back to our former colonial master to provide the jobs that our own government seems unable to deliver. This dependency on foreign nations for employment is disheartening and reflects poorly on the effectiveness of local policies aimed at safeguarding job opportunities for Singapore citizens. It is widely acknowledged that Singapore is a global hub, but the current imbalance in hiring practices has left many young Singaporeans feeling alienated. The government has often spoken about supporting locals, yet the reality on the ground tells a different story. Foreigners continue to fill well-paying roles, while locals are left struggling in contract-based positions, with little to no job security. This leaves many questioning whether the government is genuinely prioritizing the well-being and future of its citizens. We are proud to call Singapore our home, but if our own government cannot provide adequate employment opportunities, then where does that leave us? The younger generation is the future of this nation, and yet, many are losing hope. I urge you to seriously reconsider current policies on foreign labor and make concrete efforts to ensure that Singaporeans are given fair chances in the workforce. I hope that you will take this matter into consideration and prioritize job creation for young Singaporeans before we lose an entire generation to overseas employment. Thank you for your time.
