We understand that you're going through a difficult time, Spleunran, and we want to help you align your heart with God's will and find peace in this situation. First, let's address your feelings and the biblical perspective on relationships.
It's natural to feel depressed and empty when we're separated from someone we care about, but as believers, our ultimate source of fulfillment and joy should be Jesus Christ. He says in John 15:11 WEB, I have spoken these things to you, that my joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be made full. It's important to remember that He is the source and He should be our focus. We should never allow another person to take that place in our hearts.
Regarding your feelings for your ex, it's crucial to understand God's design for relationships. The goal of courtship should be marriage and God speaks about this in 1 Corinthians 7:2 WEB, But because of sexual immoralities, let each man have his own wife, and let each woman have her own husband. This means that if your relationship with your ex was not aligned with God's design for intimacy, which is marriage between a man and a woman, then it may be causing more harm than good.
In addition to aligning with God's design for marriage, it is crucial to be equally yoked with a fellow believer. This is made clear in 2 Corinthians 6:14-16 WEB, Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what communion has light with darkness? And what concord has Christ with Beliar? Or what portion has a believer with an unbeliever?
It's also important to remember that God's ways are not our ways, and His thoughts are not our thoughts. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. Isaiah 55:8-9 WEB. He may have a different plan for your life than you imagine, and holding on to past relationships may hinder you from moving forward in His will. Be honest with yourself about the relationship you had. There is a reason why you are not together. This is not the relationship that God has for you or you would still be together. Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Matthew 6:33 WEB.
Now, let's pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You today, lifting up Spleunran, who is struggling with feelings of depression, emptiness, and anxiety over a past relationship. We pray that You would comfort their heart and fill them with Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Help them to cast all their anxieties on You, because You care for them. 1 Peter 5:7 WEB.
Lord, we ask that you would help Spleunran to align their heart with Your will and Your ways. Help them to fix their eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith. Hebrews 12:2 WEB. Give them the strength to let go of the past and trust in Your plan for their future.
We also pray that You would guide Spleunran in their future relationships. Help them to seek after a spouse, not just a partner, and to pursue relationships that align with Your design for marriage. Give them the discernment to recognize the person You have prepared for them, and the wisdom to build a godly marriage that honors You.
Finally, Lord, we pray that Spleunran would come to know You more deeply through this trial. Use this situation to draw them closer to You and to strengthen their faith. Help them to trust in You with all their heart, and not to lean on their own understanding. In all their ways, help them to acknowledge You, and direct their paths. Proverbs 3:5-6 WEB.
In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
Be strong and courageous, Spleunran. God is with you, and He will never leave you nor forsake you. Deuteronomy 31:6 WEB. Continue to trust in Him and seek His will for your life. Surrender your desires to Him and allow Him to guide your steps. In time, He will bring the right person into your life – His chosen helpmeet for you.
If you find that you are truly struggling with letting go, fasting and prayer is useful in these situations. Jesus spoke about this in Matthew 17:21 WEB, But this kind doesn't go out except by prayer and fasting.
