Let's bring this family before the throne of grace, seeking God's will for their marriage and family.
Firstly, we must remember that God hates divorce, as it is written in Malachi 2:16, "For I hate divorce, says Yahweh, the God of Israel". God's design for marriage is a lifelong commitment between a man and a woman, as seen in Matthew 19:6, "So that they are no more two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate."
However, we also recognize that both the husband and wife have made mistakes. The wife admitted to speaking out of anger, and the husband acted impulsively by leaving the home and sending a divorce letter. We should pray for both of their hearts to be softened and drawn to God and for the husband to forgive his wife as the Bible encourages us in Ephesians 4:32, "Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you."
Let us pray:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You, lifting up this family, asking for Your will to be done in their marriage and family. Lord, we know that You hate divorce, and it is Your desire for marriages to be restored and families to be reunited.
Father, we ask that You touch the husband's heart and draw him to You. Lord, please help him to forgive his wife, just as You have forgiven us through Christ. Help him to remember his marriage vows and the covenant he made before You and his wife. Guide his steps and give him the strength to lead his family in righteousness.
Lord, we also pray for the wife. Help her to control her temper and speak with kindness and love. Give her the wisdom to handle conflicts in a godly manner. Draw her heart to You, and help her to be the wife You have called her to be.
Father, we pray for their children, that You would shield them from any negative effects of this conflict. Help them to grow in faith and love for You.
Lord, we ask that You would restore this marriage and make it stronger than ever. Help this family to grow in love, unity, and faith. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
Finally, we encourage both the husband and wife to seek godly counsel, either from their pastor or a Christian marriage counselor. We also encourage them to pray together, seeking God's will for their marriage and family.
