We are truly sorry to hear about the struggles you're facing in your marriage, Melanie. We appreciate your continual prayers to the Lord Jesus Christ. First, let's address a couple issues and then we will provide guidance, offer prayers, and scripture reading. Marriage is a lifelong commitment and breaking this commitment is against scriptural principles.
Threats of separation and divorce are against scripture and indicate the need for further development in faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and other issues, which we will discuss later in this message.
Malachi 2:16 ESV states 'For the man who does not love his wife but divorces her, says the Lord, the God of Israel, covers his garment with violence, says the Lord of hosts. So guard yourselves in your spirit, and do not be faithless.'
Jesus provides further direction in Matthew 19:6, WEB: 'So that they are no more two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, do not let man tear apart.'
Matthew 5:32 WEB 'But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, brings about her adultery; and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.'
Therefore, only in specific cases of sexual immorality, a husband or wife is to depart from one another.
Scriptures to Consider:
The world can influence behavior in a way that brings uncertainty, anxiousness, and trouble into one's marriage.
Ephesians 6:12 WEB For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.
Your belief in the Lord Jesus Christ needs to remain steadfast. If it ever seems shaky, then turn back to God through prayer and reading scripture for a complete faith in Jesus Christ and practice what God is teaching you. Scriptures need to be read and obeyed that Jesus' commands are followed. Continual repentance of sin is needed, striving for the righteousness of God. There is a need to abide in Jesus Christ through obedience. Salvation is freely given by God to each person and obtained by each person's free will through belief and trust in Jesus Christ. God's Holy Spirit becomes a part of every Believer and makes new. There is a common phrase used in scripture that says 'put off the old' and 'put on the new' believer. It is a phrase describing many areas where there is a need for individuals to completely turn away from past and sometimes present and future sinful actions, motives, thoughts, and intentions to all things aligned with God's word and intent for everyone.
The nature of marriage relationships needs to align with God's purpose. 1 Peter 3:7 ESV Likewise, husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way, showing honor to the woman as the weaker vessel, since they are heirs with you of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered.
A husband and wife have important roles, duties, and responsibilities with each other and to God. To resist the World and the devil's evil plan for God's people, then wives should be supportive and submissive to her husband in everything. Husbands need to be living sacrifices for his wife's best interests, even if this requires resisting, but not being hostile towards one another, any sinful influence by those around her and him. The first disobedience to God is considered disobedience to God. Husband, wives and husbands need to strive for 'putting off the old' and putting on the new' in everything as unto the Lord.
Let us first address what God's word says about. Let's consider the scripture which say that an adulterous affair may put an individual outside of God's intended for them if it is not addressed appropriately. He needs to repent of the communication and refrain from any and all non-believers and turn from iniquity and sin. There should not be arguments between a husband and wife over such activity, but rather addressing such grievous situations appropriately.
He does not sound as if he is practicing marriage in God's intended way and certainly isn't actively participating in a way of any other intentions for marriage. We understand what God wants in a marriage relationship is fulfillment. Therefore, he should pursue honoring his marital commitment to you by halting the marriage from being defiled in these ways, through repentance and understanding to never pursue a relationship with any woman he is not married to. The belief system and in particular the faith of this marriage should always be in Jesus Christ alone as it does not sound as if his devotion and focus is on the one, true and living God. It appears inappropriate contact with another woman or at least immoral thoughts and motives directed towards one.
You both need to focus on salvation and leading one another to faith in Jesus Christ. For anyone who does not put their complete faith and trust in Jesus Christ, then Jesus said:
John 3:36 WEB One who believes in the Son has eternal life, but one who disobeys the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.
Let's pray for the restoration of your marriage as it was ordained by God and can not be terminated by man. May there be fulfillment in your marriage by further faith, love, and understanding by his grace through Jesus Christ. Let us Pray.
Dear Heavenly Father, we come to you in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. We lift up your marriage. Lord, we ask that the enemy flee from your relationship, if this relationship is in your will for these two believers. We ask for understanding and continued support for one another as obedience to your word and wisdom will provide solutions for this marriage. God bless your marital relationship and all future fruits from a fulfilling marriage in Christ's Name.
May this Marriage see restoration and revival and abide by your will. Let each persons salvation be a priority for them so they have assurance of their future abode and your Holy Spirit residing with them always.
Father in Heaven, let your will be done through your words of wisdom and scriptures contained in this message. Let us ask, if not aligned with your will for one or the other, then give clear revelation through the Holy Spirit for obedience, further understanding, and abidance with you.
Finally, may Mick and Melanie completely adhere to the scriptures provided. Any individual sin, motive, or impurity must be revealed and addressed so these Christians are renewed and made holy for better obedience to God's purpose in everything in their lives. Let any testimony to unbelievers and Christians through their Godly marriage be the demonstration of this testimony.
All prayer, as Jesus Christ said, can be accomplished only in His name and authority of the trinity.
This last paragraph brings to light the reason the we believe what we believe and what was noted at the beginning of this message: it is important to pray in the name of Jesus.
