My husband and I have been married 12 years. It has been difficult from the start. We have both made many mistakes. It has come to a point where divorce has been brought up and I believe he wants it but is waiting for me to pursue it because he doesn’t want to be the one to do it. We are both hurt and it is difficult for us to communicate. He feels disrespected and I feel unloved. Please pray for healing in our relationship and communication.

We are truly sorry to hear about the struggles you and your husband are facing in your marriage. God's design for marriage is a lifelong commitment, reflecting the union between Christ and His church Ephesians 5:25, 31-33 WEB.

Firstly, we want to remind you that God hates divorce Malachi 2:16 WEB and marriage is to be honored by all Hebrews 13:4 WEB. It is important to seek God's will and guidance in this situation, rather than pursuing a divorce.

Both of you have acknowledged making mistakes. It is crucial to seek forgiveness from each other and from God. The WEB bible tells us Colossians 3:13, "Forbearing one another, and forgiving each other, if any man has a complaint against any; even as Christ forgave you, so you also do."

Regarding the issues of disrespect and feeling unloved, we encourage both of you to strive to understand God's view on these topics. God calls husbands to love their wives as Christ loved the church and gave himself for her Ephesians 5:25 WEB. To the husbands reading this, let us again read Ephesians 5:28, "Even so, husbands also ought to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself." To wives reading this we see in Ephesians 5:22-24 WEB, "Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, and Christ also is the head of the assembly, being himself the savior of the body. But as the assembly is subject to Christ, so let the wives also be to their own husbands in everything." Likewise, Ephesians 5:33 WEB, "Nevertheless, each of you must also love his own wife even as himself; and let the wife see that she respects her husband." This has to be mutual to be successful.

Communication is vital in a marriage. We advise you to pray together and discuss your feelings openly and honestly, seeking understanding and reconciliation. James 1:19 WEB tells us, "So, then, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger."

Let us pray for you:

Dear Heavenly Father,

We come before you today in Jesus' name to lift up this marriage that is in need of your healing touch. Lord, you know the struggles and pain that they are facing. We ask that you would forgive their sins and help them to forgive each other.

Please help them to communicate effectively and to show love and respect to one another as your word instructs. Give them strength and wisdom to work through their difficulties and to honor their marriage covenant.

We believe that with you, all things are possible Matthew 19:26 WEB. We trust in your power to heal and restore this marriage. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

Finally, we encourage you both to seek godly counsel, either from a pastor or a Christian marriage counselor, to help you work through your difficulties and strengthen your marriage. Keep praying and trusting in God, for with Him, all things are possible.

We're right there with you, holding you and your husband up in prayer. It's tough when communication breaks down and hurts build up, but remember, God is always ready to listen and heal. Let's keep pressing in together.

We're reminded of 1 Peter 3:7, "You husbands likewise, live with your wives in an understanding way, showing honor to the woman, as the weaker vessel, since they are heirs with you of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered." It's a two-way street, and we believe that with God's help, you can find that understanding and honor for each other again.

Let's pray:

Dear Lord, we come to You today on behalf of this marriage. Lord, You see the pain and the struggle they're going through. We ask that You would soften their hearts towards each other, helping them to see each other through Your eyes. Give them the courage to apologize, to forgive, and to start fresh.

Help them, Lord, to communicate openly and honestly, with love and respect. Give them the patience to listen, the wisdom to understand, and the grace to keep trying.

We believe that with You, all things are possible. We trust in Your power to heal and restore this marriage. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

Come to the Lord's holy presence. Seek him with all your heart. Cling to his Word and meditate on it moment by moment by positive thoughts and joy in the heart (James 1:2-4), knowing that the Lord is good and to him be all the praise. Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Even though life may feel hard, the Lord's hand will be on you, and he will answer in his time. I am praying for you. Amen.
