We understand that you have been in a relationship with Jose for the past seven years, and you are now facing opposition from his family. We will pray for you both and also provide some biblical guidance for your logical next steps.
Firstly, we want to remind you of the importance of living according to God's commands. God's Word encourages us not to be unevenly yoked with those who do not share our faith (2 Corinthians 6:14). For Christians who are contemplating marriage, used in the sense of being in a close relationship with another Christian who shares your faith and aligns with biblical principles. Therefore, ensure that your relationship is godly and the person is a fellow Christian believer.
In Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 two are better than one, for they get more reward for their labor. For if one falls there shall be another to lift up his fellow. It is better to be courting with marriage as the goal rather than simply being devoted to a boyfriend-girlfriend relationship.
It is imperative to note that all human relationships must fall under the authority of Scripture. Jesus said, 'he who doesn't take up his cross and follow after me he cannot be my disciple' He went on to say 'He who does not forsake all that he has cannot be my disciple'(Luke 14:27, 33). This scripture mentions that following Jesus, believing in Jesus, and loving Jesus Christ should be preeminent, primary and there should be nothing else that supersedes that choice including family matters.
We also want to remind you that marriage should be a lifelong commitment between a man and a woman (Matthew 19:4-6).
Let's pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You today to lift up Xenenbon and Jose. We Pray that you direct their relationship route towards godly marriage. We pray for Jose's family, that You would soften their hearts and change their minds, bringing them to accept the relationship only if it is your will and design to be marriage.. We also pray for Xenenbon, that You would grant the faith, patience, and wisdom to navigate this challenging situation. Help Xenenbon and Jose do what is right and not allow their sexual passion to drive them into sin. We pray they do not engage in sexual activity as to assert their rights to one another.
Lord, if this relationship is not Your will, we pray that You would make it clear to both of them and help them to move forward in Your plan for their lives. We pray for strength against temptation for both Xenenbon and Jose (1 Corinthians 10:13). Lord, we pray for them individually and together that they both who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution (2 Timothy 3:12).
Lord, if possible will they desire what is proper to be married (1 Corinthians 7:9). Lord, in the name of Jesus Christ, may they know Your love that passes our understanding (Ephesians 3:19). We ask this all in Jesus' name, Amen.
