We are truly saddened to hear of the profound despair and hopelessness you are experiencing, dear friend. Major depression is a heavy burden to bear, and it's understandable that you feel overwhelmed and hopeless. However, we want to assure you that there is hope in Jesus Christ, even when it feels like all is lost.
Firstly, we want to address the feelings of hopelessness and the desire to have your life taken. We read in Jeremiah 29:11, "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future." God has a plan and a purpose for your life, even if it's difficult to see right now. We urge you to hold on to this promise and trust that God's plan is better than any we could imagine for ourselves.
It's also crucial to remember that our hope is not in the things of this world but in Jesus Christ. Romans 5:3-4 tells us, "We also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope." Hope is a fruit of the Spirit that grows even in the darkest times, and it's a hope that will not disappoint because it's rooted in the love of God (Romans 5:5).
We understand that you feel "prayed out," but we encourage you to keep talking to God, even if it's just a whisper or a groan. Psalm 34:18 assures us, "Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit." God hears your cries, and He is close to you in your pain.
Regarding the unfulfilled hopes and dreams, we must remember that God's ways are higher than our ways, and His thoughts higher than our thoughts (Isaiah 55:8-9). Trust that He has better plans for you, even if they don't look like what you initially hoped for.
Lastly, we want to address the feeling that no one cares. God cares deeply for you. He loves you so much that He sent His only Son to die for you (John 3:16). And even when it feels like people don't care, know that we, as a community of believers, care and are lifting you up in prayer.
Let us pray for you:
Dear Heavenly Father, we come before You, lifting up our dear friend who is struggling with major depression and feelings of hopelessness. Lord, we ask that You comfort and strengthen them in their time of need. Remind them of Your unfailing love and the hope they have in Jesus Christ. Help them to fix their eyes on You and trust in Your good plans for their life. Give them the energy and motivation they need to face each day, and surround them with people who will love and support them. In Jesus' precious name, we pray. Amen.
