Maintenance Discount

I owe maintenance on my house for 20 months and that is a lot. On Monday I will ask for a discount and I hope they give me a very good discount.

Lulu let us stand with you in prayer regarding this situation and help you understand what God's word has to say about it.

We are reminded in Psalm 37:21 WEB The wicked borrow, and don't pay back, but the righteous give generously. God's word tells us to repay what we owe. As God's child in this context God expects us to repay who is owed for the maintenance of your house. If we owe someone for the work they have done it is not free to us, but costs us. So asking for a discount is only a request. It is not owed to us.

Let us teach you what the bible says about what the LORD God wants us to do. If debt is owed to someone, then the LORD requires us as Christians to pay all our debts.

Romans 13:8 WEB Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law. First and foremost ask the LORD God for his help and guidance.

For any service rendered let us pay the amount agreed and owe nothing. Secondly the LORD requires us to pay the price agreed by both parties. In Matthew 20:13 WEB But he answered one of them, 'Friend, I am doing you no wrong. Didn't you agree with me for a denarius?

The above verse is clear that the master in the parable does not owe any more to the servant than the agreed amount. A normal and easy to understand business arrangement is described there, no more. The business arrangement for a denarius may generally be understood to have required no haggling since it was made with clear intention and possibility to pay. If the service was valuable enough to procure it at the time of service that was intended. So a Christian should always have the funds to pay for any service they procure. We should not expect a discount with the intent to entice us to buy. If the amount was not enough agreed at the time of purchase it is not for us to determine later and a discount is not owed to us. It is not a right to get a discount afterwards.

A service provider had the choice to perform the service, but be sure that the LORD God did not make that Christian agree to that which they cannot afford. It is expected of a Christian to pay. Our brother or sister in Christ should receive the payment they are owed.

This is reiterated in James 5:4 WEB Behold, the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you have kept back by fraud, cry out, and the cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord of Hosts. Do not be so foolish that you owe them for any opportunity costs that may arise. This possibly should be considered a major sin in God's eyes and may affect your prayers.

A discount is acceptable if given, but not owed by God's word. There is no biblical precedence or scripture that allows a Christian to ask for discount just because one may think they have paid or decided to overpay to an individual or company. This is arrogance if asking afterwards. Agree with the vendor at the time of decision and pay what is owed.

Regardless as God's child we can pray and expect God to help us in time of difficulty regarding your maintenance. Do expect to learn from this experience that God expects us to pay for that we have procured.

Father in Heaven, empower me to have funds to have the work completed and pay the contractors for making your home more luxurious. We are merely sojourners and pilgrims on this earth. Guide us on how to have something better to live in permanently with you and Jesus in Heaven for ever and ever. Help Lulu make decisions that place her with you and Jesus in eternity and not jeopardize that relationship.

Father it is only thru your son Jesus and the blood he shed on the cross that Lulu and any of us have standing or access to you. It is in Jesus Name ( IJN ) we pray and it is only thru his name we can be saved. We should have no excuses or reason that makes us not call on or pray in Jesus name. It is thru the name of Jesus Christ alone we have any salvation or access to the one true God. Amen Amen.

Do pray to only the LORD God and Father of all creation thru his son Jesus. We do not believe in praying to or thru Jesus or his mother Mary. Rather the bible tells us we should pray to the Father thru his son Jesus (IJN). The scriptures are clear that there is only one God and savior in the old and new testaments and they are each the divine persons the LORD God, God the Father; and the LORD Jesus Christ, Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Any prayer mentioned or acknowledged by Jesus our messiah by name to his Father or our Father shall be heard and answered. Jesus assured us his believers he would do this in his name (IJN).

Finally our response to Lulu's prayer shall be complete. Any advice or rebuke we will discuss with anyone will be based on scripture from the World English Bible (WEB).

We're right there with you, Lulu, as you approach this situation. We know you're hoping for a discount, but let's remember, the work done on your house was a service, and services deserve fair payment. As it's written in Matthew 7:12, "Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets." That means we should treat others as we'd like to be treated, and that includes paying what we owe.

So, let's pray together for wisdom and understanding. Heavenly Father, we ask that you guide Lulu in this decision. Help her to be fair and just, but also wise with her finances. We trust that You will provide the means for her to pay what is owed, and if a discount is meant to be, it will be given. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

Come to the Lord's holy presence. Seek him with all your heart.
