Maintain your High Spiritual Standard
We Christians face daily challenges in our lives while the secular world is hard at it, plowing through their lives with little cares about the brutality or the unfairness of their ways. We can easily be ensnared with self-serving goals, envy, or even hostility if we are not mindful.
Galatians 5
19. When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures,
20. idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division,
21. envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.
Let's look at four characteristics from the fruit of the flesh: selfish ambitions, envy, jealousy, hostility.
We can easily fall under these substandard traits in today's climate.
Self ambitions: “motivation to elevate oneself or to put one’s own interests before another’s.”
Envy: "is the emotion of coveting what someone else possess."
Jealousy: "is the emotion related to fear that something you have will be taken away by someone else."
Hostility: "is charged aggressive behavior that can often be found in negative competition."
During the course of any given day we are bombarded by stressors that can lead to some unwanted feelings that are far remove from heaven. Attempting to live or plan our goals in a secular world environment can be quite challenging, after all, they don't play with our rules. We need to practice due diligence when confronted by these assaults. We see success and we want it to, especially if you are running a business. Sometimes we try peeking over the proverbial fence to see why those non-godly people are so successful while we Godly remain stagnant.
Can't we just snatch a bread crumb or two of information from them? We might learn to be wise and successful.
Just entertaining the above question may place us in temptation. Envy and selfish ambitions are not far away.
Stay strong brothers and sisters. Remember that Adam and Eve wanted more but they ultimately received less. Choose the holy fruits of the Spirit. Let our Holy Spirit be our source for daily living.
Galatians 5
24. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there.
25. Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives.
26. Let us not become conceited, or provoke one another, or be jealous of one another.
Stay ready!
