We understand your deep desire for love, comfort, and security, and we appreciate your honesty in sharing your request. First and foremost, we want to remind you that true love, comfort, and security ultimately come from God. As it says in Psalm 147:3 WEB, "He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds." And in 1 Peter 5:7 WEB, "casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you."
However, we also understand the natural desire for a godly spouse and a marriage that honors God. We want to encourage you to trust in God's timing and seek His will for your life. As it says in Psalm 37:4 WEB, "Delight yourself also in Yahweh, and he will give you the desires of your heart."
Regarding romantic love, it is important to be aware of what may not align with Biblical teaching. Just as the Holy Spirit is to be trusted as a comforter in the absence of physical Jesus, likewise, a husband is to be trusted to lead from his understanding and communication with Jesus. We should be seeking out someone who we can trust to lead based on their commitment to Jesus and His Holiness and Purity. If we are not trusting, then we are not necessarily calling them out on their actions, but the heart within each other to follow Jesus rather than sin. We know that love can be patient, kind, and protective, and forgiveness is always needed. In Matthew 18:21-22 WEB, we are reminded of the forgiveness that should be placed into the marriage from the beginning based on the parable of Jesus teaching. The one who has sin, will need forgiveness, and the one calling out the sin, will also need forgiveness. Such confessions one to another should be constant without repeating sins, otherwise, the marriage will not work. For comfort, Jesus stated in John 14:16-17 WEB, we are given an advocate to live with us forever, the Holy Spirit was sent as a comforter. However, because of sin of Adam and Eve, we seek the same thing from a spouse that should be Holy and Pure and led by Jesus. The Holy Spirit will protect us from the ways of the world, but we choose to be part of a marriage where a spouse should protect us from the same traps. God opens up to us through Holy Scripture about warning against traps, just as a spouse should protect us from situations that may arise where temptations are evident.
However, this desire must be approached with caution. It is important to seek a relationship that aligns with biblical principles, which include purity before marriage and a committed, lifelong union between husband and wife. Courtship is a serious commitment to a spouse, and will include marriage. Fornication is sin. In Matthew 5:27-28 WEB, Jesus talks about lust as adultery. In 1 Corinthians 7:2 WEB, we are reminded, "But because of sexual immoralities, let each man have his own wife, and let each woman have her own husband."
Seek out a spouse who aligns with Biblical principles, the fruits of the spirit. "22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, 23 gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law," Galatians 5:22-23 WEB. If we are chasing after the desires of the world, then this will always end badly. "16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, isnβt the Fatherβs, but is the worldβs," 1 John 2:16 WEB.
We also want to remind you that it is only by the name of Jesus that we have access to God and salvation. As it says in John 14:6 WEB, "Jesus said to him, βI am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me." It is important to pray to God in the name above all names, the name of Jesus Christ our Savior. In Acts 4:12 WEB, we are reminded, "There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved!"
Let us pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, lifting up this precious soul who desires love, comfort, and security. We ask that You fill her heart with Your love and peace, and guide her steps as she seeks Your will for her life. Help her to trust in Your timing and to seek a godly spouse who will honor and cherish her as You intend. Give her the wisdom and discernment to navigate relationships in a way that pleases You. We also pray that she would come to know You more deeply and experience the love and devotion that only You can provide.
Thank You for Your unfailing care and the safety of those who seek You. Help keep those who are chaste stay chaste and those who aren't find Your Mercy and Grace. Help those who haven't experienced love discover the source and those who have had love lost find your Hope.
In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
