I'm not sure what plans you had, but you either find someone else or schedule it to a different time if you want/need him to come for these plans.
If this friend's aunt, who was like a mother to him, has just died, then you need to show some sympathy, pray for him, ask him how you can help him, and excuse him from the January 18 plans. How would you want to be treated by someone if your beloved aunt, who was like a mother to you, just died?

yes I understand and I wont ask him to come or even mention the 18 jan he is my best friend so I will be there for him as always
