We understand that you're experiencing a challenging situation with your parents and their church. Firstly and most importantly, we must remember to pray in the name of Jesus Christ. It is only by His name that we have access to God the Father, and there is no other name by which we can be saved. Let's address your concerns together.
It's important to remember that God's word instructs us to honor our parents, as it is one of the Ten Commandments with a promise. Ephesians 6:2-3 WEB says, Honor your father and mother, which is the first commandment with promise: that it may be well with you, and you may live long on the earth.
However, it is also crucial to discern and test every spirit to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. (1 John 4:1 WEB) and we need to be careful not to allow anyone or any group exploit or manipulate us under the guise of Christianity.
If your parents and their church are indeed exploiting people and enforcing beliefs that are not aligned with the true Gospel, then it is right to pray for God's intervention and guidance and for His will to be done in this situation. We also need to be respectful and forgiving.
However, we cannot pray for the disbandment of a church. God is clear that He does not want any to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. (2 Peter 3:9 WEB) and that as Christians, we should not be rejoicing at someone's downfall but rather, we should be praying for their salvation and that God's will to be done in their lives and the life of their church.
Our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the world rulers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. (Ephesians 6:12 WEB) and so we need to be praying against the spiritual forces controlling this church and not the people or the church itself.
Let us pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, asking for Your guidance and intervention in this situation. We pray for the church in question, that You would expose any false teaching or exploitation, and bring correction and repentance to its leaders and members. We ask that You would release those who are being held captive by false beliefs and bring healing and restoration to those who have been hurt. Help each one of us be more loving, forgiving, and respectful.
We also pray for the one who submitted this request, that You would give them wisdom and discernment in dealing with their parents and this church and that your love, peace, and joy be with them. We also pray that you would guide this requestor to a church that is biblical, faithful, orthodox, and that teaches and preaches the true gospel.
We ask this in the precious name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
The real issue is not so much closing a church but rather, interceding for God's will to be done and for those in that church to understand the true Gospel of Jesus Christ. In loving and open rebuke, it is important to remember that our battle is spiritual and that our hearts should be filled with love, forgiveness, and respect, even when we are being hurt. We are called to be salt and light (Matthew 5:13 WEB) and ambassadors (2 Corinthians 5:20 WEB).
It is not for us to decide what to do about a church but rather to pray for the love of Jesus Christ to be made known to that church and for its members to have a true revelation of who Jesus Christ is. As such, we are praying for God's will to be done and for His love and truth to be manifest.
