Let's remember to keep sports in the right perspective. As fun and entertaining as they are, we as Christians worship the Lord Jesus Christ. While there is nothing wrong with having fun and watching a football game, we must never be filled with anxiety or stress about the outcome. Of course, it's okay to want your favorite team to win, but know that victory or defeat does not have significance for your eternal life.
If we are not praying in Jesus' name, we have no access to God. We pray in Jesus' name because He is our Lord and Savior, and because through Him, we have the privilege of approaching God's throne with confidence. As it is written in John 14:6 WEB: "Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me." And in Acts 4:12 WEB: "There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved!"
Let's pray for the safety of the players and fans, and let's pray for God to have His hand on the game, no matter the outcome. We pray for God's will to be done and for us Christians to be able to respond in a God-honoring way, win or lose. And remember, bad sportsmanship is not godly.
