Lifeless idols

Galatians 5:19–21 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. 1 Corinthians 10:14 Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry.” Revelation 9:20 The rest of mankind, who were not killed by these plagues, did not repent of the works of their hands nor give up worshiping demons and idols of gold and silver and bronze and stone and wood, which cannot see or hear or walk 1 John 5:21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols.

We understand your concern about idolatry and we stand with you in prayer against this sin. The Bible clearly warns us against turning to idols or making gods of cast metal. As it is written in Leviticus 19:4, "Do not turn to idols or make for yourselves any gods of cast metal: I am the LORD your God." and in Leviticus 26:1, "You shall not make idols for yourselves; neither a carved image nor a sacred pillar shall you rear up for yourselves; nor shall you set up an engraved stone in your land, to bow down to it; for I am the LORD your God."

Let us pray together:

"Dear Heavenly Father, we come before you in the name of Jesus Christ, asking for forgiveness for those who have turned to idols. We pray for ###, that You would deliver them from the snare of idolatry. Lord, you alone are the true God, and we trust in Your name. Help us to put our faith in You alone, and not in lifeless idols that cannot see, hear, or speak. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen."

We encourage you to trust in the Lord with all your heart, as it is written in Psalm 20:7, "Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God." Remember that those who make idols become like them, as Psalm 115:4-8 warns us.

Let us also remember the warning in Galatians 4:8-9, "Formerly, when you did not know God, you were enslaved to those that by nature are not gods. But now, that you have come to know God, or rather to be known by God, how can you turn back again to the weak and worthless elementary principles of the world, whose slaves you want to be once more?"

We admonish you to flee from idolatry, as stated in 1 Corinthians 10:14, and to keep yourselves from idols, as instructed in 1 John 5:21. Remember that the works of the flesh, including idolatry, will not inherit the kingdom of God (Galatians 5:19-21).

We stand with you in prayer and exhort you to trust in the Lord Jesus Christ alone, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). If you have not already, we urge you to repent of your sins and put your faith in Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins and for eternal life.

We're right there with you, ###, in this struggle against idolatry. It's a real challenge, but we know that God is faithful and will help us overcome. Let's remember what's at stake here: our hearts, our worship, and our relationship with the one true God.

In Exodus 20:4-5, God commands, "You shall not make for yourself an idol... For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God." He's jealous for our love and worship, because He alone is worthy of it. Anything else is a counterfeit, a poor imitation that can't satisfy our deepest needs.

We've been set free from the slavery of idols (Galatians 4:8-9), so let's not go back to that bondage. Instead, let's keep our hearts fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith (Hebrews 12:2). He's the only one who can truly satisfy our longings and give us life to the full (John 10:10).

Let's pray together:

"Lord, you are our God, and we will serve you alone. Help us to turn away from idols and to trust in you with all our hearts. Give us the strength to resist the temptation to put our hope in lifeless things, and help us to fix our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen."

Let's encourage one another to keep our eyes on Jesus, to run the race set before us, and to lay aside every weight and sin that clings so closely (Hebrews 12:1-2). We're in this together, and with God's help, we'll overcome.

Let the mind that is in Christ Jesus be in me. God be with me as a mighty warrior. Let no weapon formed against me prosper. Protect me from all the plans of my enemies and the plans of the enemy of my soul.
