Proverbs 18:18: The lot causeth contentions to cease, and parteth between the mighty. Seeking Wisdom: The book of Proverbs, in general, emphasizes the importance of wisdom and seeking God's guidance in all areas of life. This verse encourages us to seek wisdom in how we resolve conflicts and to trust in God's ability to bring about a just and peaceful outcome. Proverbs 18:18: This proverb highlights the idea that even seemingly random methods like casting lots can be used to resolve disputes and separate powerful opponents. Jesus as a Peacemaker: Jesus is presented in the Bible as the ultimate peacemaker, demonstrating how to resolve conflicts and bring people together. Jesus as a Judge: Jesus is also seen as the final judge who will separate the righteous from the wicked. Connecting the Verse to Jesus: Just as the lot can end quarrels, Jesus's life, death, and resurrection are seen as the ultimate act of reconciliation, resolving the conflict between humanity and God. Trusting in God's Wisdom: The proverb encourages us to trust in God's wisdom and guidance, even in difficult situations, just as Jesus trusted His Father. Applying the Principle: We can apply this principle by seeking peaceful resolutions to our own conflicts and trusting God to bring clarity and peace. Examples in Jesus's life: Jesus showed us that true wisdom often involves humility, letting go of our own desires, and trusting in God's will. In situations where people tried to trap Jesus in disputes, He always responded with wisdom that brought clarity and peace. Questions for Reflection and Discussion: Are there areas in our life where we need to let go of control and trust God to bring resolution? How can we apply the principle of seeking God’s guidance in resolving conflicts with others? What are some practical ways we can promote peace in our relationships, even when disagreements arise? How does Jesus’s example of being a peacemaker challenge us to approach conflicts differently? In what ways can we trust God more deeply in situations that feel beyond our control? This proverb encourages us to seek peaceful resolutions and trust God in the midst of conflicts. By letting go of our need to control every outcome, we open the door for God’s wisdom to guide us toward solutions that bring peace and unity. Let’s commit to being people who prioritize harmony, trust God’s guidance, and reflect His love in our relationships. Prayer for Matthew 5:9: “Blessed are the peacemakers, because they will be called sons of God.” Praying through Matthew 5:9: Our prayer: We thank You, Heavenly Father, that we have peace with You through the death of Jesus, our Saviour. We pray we may be a peace-maker in the place that You have put us, by maintaining sweet fellowship with You and by sharing the gospel of grace with all we may meet. May we be used as Your instrument of godly reconciliation and peace-making in this distressed world. In Jesus' name we pray, AMEN.

We thank you for sharing these insights on Proverbs 18:18 and its connection to Jesus' role as a peacemaker and judge. It is a great way to use the World English Bible (WEB) as our guide. Let us delve deeper into this topic, addressing any confusion and praying together for wisdom and peace.

Firstly, let us remember that true wisdom comes from God alone. Proverbs 2:6 says, For Yahweh gives wisdom. Out of his mouth comes knowledge and understanding. Jesus demonstrated this wisdom throughout His ministry, resolving conflicts not through force or aggression, but through love, humility, and truth.

The casting of lots mentioned in Proverbs 18:18 does not refer to gambling or chance, but rather to a method of decision-making that acknowledges God's sovereignty. Acts 1:24-26 shows the disciples using this method to choose Matthias as a replacement for Judas. They prayed, You, Lord, who know the hearts of all men, show which one of these two you have chosen to take part in this ministry and apostleship from which Judas fell away, that he might go to his own place. They gave lots to them, and the lot fell on Matthias, and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.

We believe Jesus is the ultimate peacemaker, as Colossians 1:20 tells us, and through him to reconcile all things to himself, by him, whether things on the earth, or things in the heavens, having made peace through the blood of his cross. As His followers, we too are called to be peacemakers. But nothing is more important than making peace with God. This is only possible through faith in Jesus Christ. There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12.

We must also address that while seeking peace, we cannot compromise on biblical truths. In today's world, some may advocate for peace at any cost, including accepting practices that go against God's word, such as alternative lifestyles, relationships, and marriages that do not align with biblical principles. But as Jesus told us in Matthew 10:34, Do not think that I came to send peace on the earth. I did not come to send peace, but a sword. This does not mean Jesus advocated for violence, but rather that His message of truth would divide those who accept it from those who do not.

Let us pray together for better understanding.

Heavenly Father, we come before You, seeking Your wisdom and guidance. Help us to be peacemakers, not by compromising Your truth, but by loving others as You have loved us. Help us to trust in Your sovereignty, even in difficult situations. Help us to give our problems to you and trust in Your answers because we know You are in control. Remind us of Your plan for peace in this world and help us to follow Your example of humility and love. Help us to be a light in this dark world. May Your love and truth guide our steps and our words. Help us to speak out against sin and remind us to stand against anything that You call wrong. Help us to trust in You in all things. We pray for boldness to share the gospel and see Your kingdom come. We pray for revival in our hearts and our land. Help us to always remember the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross for our sins and help us to always share this truth. It is only by Your son, Jesus Christ that we may be saved. In Jesus' name we pray.

We're right there with you, seeking wisdom and understanding from God's Word. It's amazing how Proverbs 18:18 points us to Jesus, our ultimate Peacemaker and Judge. Let's continue to meditate on this together.

We're struck by how Jesus, in His humanity, trusted His Father completely, even in the face of His impending crucifixion. In the Garden of Gethsemane, He prayed, "Not my will, but yours be done" (Luke 22:42). This is a powerful example of letting go of our own desires and trusting in God's wisdom and guidance.

We're also reminded of the importance of humility in seeking peace. As we strive to resolve conflicts and promote harmony in our relationships, let's remember to humble ourselves and trust in God's sovereignty. Even when outcomes are beyond our control, we can trust that God is working all things together for our good and His glory (Romans 8:28).

Let's pray together:

"Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the wisdom and guidance found in Your Word. Help us to trust in You, even in the midst of conflict and uncertainty. Give us the humility to let go of our own desires and the courage to trust in Your will. Help us to be peacemakers, reflecting Your love and grace in all our relationships. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen."
