Isaiah 55:3: Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David.

Extended Explanation of the Verse: Isaiah 55:3 is an invitation to listen to God and enter into a life-giving relationship with Him. The call to “give ear” and “listen” emphasizes the importance of paying close attention to God’s Word. This listening is not passive but active, leading to spiritual renewal and life. God promises an “everlasting covenant,” rooted in His faithful love, which He first demonstrated in His promises to King David. This covenant represents a deep, unbreakable bond between God and His people, offering not just temporal blessings but eternal life. It reassures that God’s promises are trustworthy and enduring, extending His love and faithfulness to all who respond to His call.

Historical Context: Isaiah spoke these words to a people who had experienced the consequences of turning away from God. They were in exile, longing for restoration and hope. The reference to God’s “faithful love promised to David” pointed back to the covenant God made with David, promising that his lineage would lead to an eternal kingdom (2 Samuel 7:16). This promise of an everlasting covenant gave hope to Israel that God’s plan was still in motion and that He would remain faithful to His promises, despite their current circumstances.

Theological Implications: Life Through Listening to God: This verse highlights the life-giving power of God’s Word. True life is found not in worldly pursuits but in responding to His call. The Faithfulness of God’s Covenant: The reference to David underscores God’s unchanging commitment to His promises and His people. The Universality of the Covenant: While rooted in God’s promises to David, this everlasting covenant is extended to all who respond to God’s invitation, showing His grace and inclusivity.

What This Verse Means for Today’s Christian: Isaiah 55:3 reminds Christians of the importance of listening to God’s Word and responding to His invitation. It assures believers that God’s promises are reliable and His covenant is eternal. For today’s Christian, this verse is a call to draw near to God, trust in His faithfulness, and find true life in Him. This verse also encourages believers to reflect on the depth of God’s love, as demonstrated through His covenant, and to share this hope with others.

How This Verse Relates to a Loving God: This verse reflects God’s love through His personal invitation to “come” and experience life. The “everlasting covenant” showcases His commitment to maintaining a relationship with His people. By referencing His promise to David, God demonstrates that His love is faithful, steadfast, and extends across generations, reaching all who respond to His call.

How This Verse Connects to Jesus Christ: Isaiah 55:3 finds its ultimate fulfillment in Jesus Christ, the descendant of David who establishes the eternal kingdom promised by God. Through Jesus, the everlasting covenant is extended to all who believe in Him, offering eternal life and reconciliation with God. Jesus repeatedly called people to listen and come to Him, saying, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). Through His death and resurrection, Jesus secures the life and promises described in this verse, making them accessible to all.

Questions for Reflection and Discussion: How does this verse challenge us to listen more closely to God’s Word? What does the promise of an “everlasting covenant” mean to us personally? In what ways have we experienced God’s faithful love in our life? How does Jesus fulfill the invitation and promises of this verse? How can we share God’s invitation to life with someone who may feel distant from Him?

Isaiah 55:3 is a beautiful reminder of God’s faithfulness and His desire for a relationship with His people. It calls believers to listen to Him, trust His promises, and experience the fullness of life through His covenant. In Jesus Christ, this promise is fulfilled, offering eternal hope and life to all who respond to His call.

Prayer for John 5:24: “I assure you: Anyone who hears My word and believes Him who sent Me has eternal life and will not come under judgment but has passed from death to life.”

Praying through John 5:24: Our prayer: Loving Father, keep us ever mindful of Your Word and the truth that is contained in the plain message of Scripture and the glorious gospel of grace. We praise and thank You that we have passed from death to life, by believing on Jesus. In His name we pray, AMEN.

Let us pray together for a deeper understanding and application of Isaiah 55:3 in our lives.

Lord, we come before You, inclining our ears to hear Your voice. We desire to come to You, knowing that as we do, our souls shall live. We claim Your promise of an everlasting covenant, the sure mercies of David. Help us to trust in Your faithful love, just as You promised to David. Give us the grace to actively listen and respond to Your Word, finding true life in You.

We also pray for those who may not know You personally, that they would hear Your call and respond, experiencing the fullness of life found only in You. We pray this all in the name of Jesus Christ, for it is in His name that we have access to You, Father, and it is by His name that we are saved. As the Bible says:

"There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved!
For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all; the testimony in its own times
Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, then I will come in to him, and will dine with him, and he with me." Acts 4:12, 1 Timothy 2:5-6, Revelation 3:20 WEB

Father, we also pray for those who are in relationships that do not align with Your principles. We pray that You would convict them and guide them into relationships that honor You. We pray for those who are courting, that You would give them wisdom and purity, keeping them from the temptations of fornication. We pray for those who are struggling with homosexual desires, that You would deliver them and give them a new heart that desires You and Your will above all else, as promised in Ezekiel 36:26. We declare through the finished work of Jesus Christ, that there is no sin too great that Your blood cannot cover. We call these things out by the power of the Holy Spirit and stand against the plans of the enemy to distort and pervert Your good design for relationships. We pray this all in Jesus name.

Let us encourage one another to draw near to God, trust in His faithfulness, and find true life in Him, as extended to us through an everlasting covenant. We must share this hope with others, reminding them that Jesus Christ is the fulfillment of this invitation and promise, offering eternal hope and life to all who respond to His call.

We must also remember that true life is found not in worldly pursuits but in responding to His call. His promises are reliable, and His covenant is eternal. We encourage one another to reflect on the depth of God's love, as demonstrated through His covenant, and to share this hope with others.

As Christians we must also remember that the promises in the Bible are for those that love God and keep His commandments. We must abide in Jesus, He is the vine, we are the branches. If we abide in Him we will bear much fruit.

"If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and remain in his love.
I have spoken these things to you, that my joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be made full.
This is my commandment, that you love one another, even as I have loved you.
Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.
You are my friends, if you do whatever I command you.
No longer do I call you servants, for the servant doesn't know what his lord does. But I have called you friends, for everything that I heard from my Father, I have made known to you.
You didn't choose me, but I chose you, and appointed you, that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain; that whatever you will ask of the Father in my name, he may give it to you.
I command these things to you, that you may love one another.
If the world hates you, you know that it has hated me before it hated you.
If you were of the world, the world would love its own. But because you are not of the world, since I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.
Remember the word that I said to you: 'A servant is not greater than his lord.' If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will keep yours also." John 15:10-20 WEB

As we are all part of the Christian church we must also remember that we are all the bride of Christ and we must be ready as if His return will be tomorrow.

"because as the lightning, when it has flashed out of one part under the sky, shines to another part under the sky; so will the Son of Man be in his day.
But first, he must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation.
As it was in the days of Noah, even so will it be also in the days of the Son of Man.
They ate, they drank, they married, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ship, and the flood came, and destroyed them all.
Likewise, even as it was in the days of Lot: they ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built;
but in the day that Lot went out from Sodom, it rained fire and sulfur from the sky, and destroyed them all.
It will be the same way in the day that the Son of Man is revealed.
In that day, he who will be on the housetop, and his goods in the house, let him not go down to take them away. Let him who is in the field likewise not turn back.
Remember Lot's wife!
Whoever seeks to save his life loses it, but whoever loses his life preserves it.
I tell you, in that night there will be two people in one bed. The one will be taken, and the other will be left.
There will be two grinding together. The one will be taken, and the other will be left." Luke 17:24-35 WEB. As Christians we must be ready for His return.

We encourage all men and women to commit to each other for a lifetime, as commanded in scripture. We must warn against the dangers of divorce, adultery and sexual promiscuity. We must not be afraid to talk about the consequences of these actions, as this is the only loving thing to do. How can we claim to love someone if we do not warn them of the paths that lead to death? We must also encourage each other and lift each other up in prayer. We must have the goal of encouraging each other and calling each other to live in a way that is pleasing to God in every way. As it says in 1 Thessalonians 2:10-12 WEB "You are witnesses with God, how holy, righteously, and blamelessly we behaved ourselves toward you who believe.
As you know how we encouraged, comforted, and implored every one of you, as a father does his own children, to the end that you should walk worthily of God, who calls you into his own Kingdom and glory."

We must do all of this above as we are told "We preach Christ, warning and admonishing everyone and teaching everyone in all wisdom, that we may present every person complete in Christ.
To this end, yes, I also labor, striving according to his working, which he worked in me mightily." Colossians 1:28-29 WEB.

We echo the sentiments expressed earlier, and we too come before You, Lord, inclining our ears to hear Your voice. We desire to come to You, knowing that as we do, our souls shall live. We claim Your promise of an everlasting covenant, rooted in Your faithful love, just as You promised to David. Help us, Lord, to actively listen and respond to Your Word, finding true life in You.

We also pray for those who may not yet know You personally, that they would hear Your call and respond, experiencing the fullness of life found only in You. We pray that they would understand the depth of Your love, demonstrated through Your covenant, and be drawn to trust in Your faithfulness.

In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

God’s/Jesus’ Word is Utter Truth and it can be Firmly Depended on and Claimed in Jesus as a Promise! I’m not proud to admit this but I was somewhat stubborn and I decided to search for God/Jesus using His Word to find Him as well as search for physical treasures. I was out in the ### Mountains looking for the Lost Dutchman Mine when all of a sudden a mountain lion appeared right above me, my first thought was run but I was climbing so there really wasn’t anywhere to run to but I just stayed perfectly still. You’d be amazed at how much you can think about in less than a second. I first thought about the unnamed profit who was killed by a lion and his donkey and the lion stayed with him afterwards, then I thought about something I read in the book of Job, the beasts of the field are at peace with the Righteous, I thought but I’m not Righteous, then I remembered reading that Jesus gives us who Believe in Him His Righteousness so I spoke to the lion Jesus says we are at peace with each other. I looked away and looked back and it was gone. I figured it was probably still watching me from somewhere but I was in an incredible or great Awe.

I was alone at the time although I don’t ever feel alone because I know Jesus is always with me. Glory to You Lord Jesus!!!

Another time I was with my wife in the same area only this time I prayed that if any creatures wound up near us that they would see their creator in us and leave us alone in Jesus. While climbing up I turned to hold out my hand to help my wife I noticed that I just had passed a rattle snake and my wife was just about to as well, I told her to just go slowly and then when she was passed it I said look and we both had our buts within less then an inch of the creature. I picked up a rock to crush it and my wife said leave it alone, we are at peace with it.

I have read the entire Bible many times and I constantly have Scriptures flowing through me. I remember reading that Jesus had said be it unto you as you have believed.

Jesus is the Most Incredible Treasure that I have actually found and I didn’t find Him without Him actually revealing Himself to me and I don’t usually share this but it was like He revealed His plans to me through the Clouds of Glory by showing me pictures of things out of Cloud Material in such a way that it was as if the entire Bible flashed before my eyes.

The Bible is complete utter Truth and Jesus is very real! He is in our hearts as well as all around each of us who have our faith in Him! His Written Word is Alive and He is Our Habitation, Our Dwelling Place, the Water that Was in the beginning, the Earth that Was in the beginning, the Spirit of the Lord or Great Cloud of Glory that Was in the Beginning and Oh so very much more I could share! Glory to You Lord Jesus!!!
