Daniel 3:7 :
Therefore at that time, when all the people heard the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and all kinds of musick, all the people, the nations, and the languages, fell down and worshipped the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up.
Commentary on this verse:
There is a deep inclination in humans to “go with the flow” and worship what everyone else worships. The masses always find an image to get their meaning from–be it a politician, popstar, nation, or lifestyle.
In this passage, we observe a pivotal moment in the lives of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who boldly refuse to worship the golden image erected by King Nebuchadnezzar. Their actions are not merely acts of defiance; they represent a profound commitment to their faith and obedience to God despite grave consequences.
Will we worship the things of this world with everyone else, or will we resist the world’s idolatry because of our loyalty to Jesus?
The LORD is not just over our story; He is in our story. Just as He walked with the three Israelites in the furnace, He has come and walked into ours. Through Jesus, the God of the Heavens became Immanuel– God with us. We may face trials that seem overwhelming, but we are never alone. Jesus is present in the midst of our struggles, protecting us and guiding us through them. Will we trust His presence, even in the heat of the fire?
Prayer for Daniel 4:3 :
“How great are His miracles, and how mighty His wonders! His kingdom is an eternal kingdom, and His dominion is from generation to generation.”
Praying through Daniel 4:3:
Our prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for the amazing book of Daniel, where we can learn so much from the lessons about the dangers of human pride, the folly of a double-minded man, and that wisdom and understanding comes from You alone. Thank You for the reassuring knowledge that You are in control of every area of our life. We can truly confess with our whole heart, through the words that Nebuchadnezzar proclaimed, "How great are Your signs and how mighty are Your wonders! Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and Your dominion is from generation to generation." Praise Your holy name! In Jesus’ name we give our praise. AMEN.
