Micah 7:20 :
Thou wilt perform the truth to Jacob, and the mercy to Abraham, which thou hast sworn unto our fathers from the days of old.
Commentary on this verse:
Thou wilt perform.—The closing words in the prophecy of Micah are gloriously taken up some centuries later by Zechariah: “As He spake by the mouth of His holy prophets, which have been since the world began: that we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us, to perform the mercy promised to our fathers, and to remember His holy covenant, the oath which He sware to our father Abraham, that He would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies, might serve Him without fear, in holiness and righteousness before Him, all the days of our life” (Luke 1:54-55). Micah praised the LORD for not staying angry with sinners forever, but forgiving them for their sins. God takes delight in forgiving people, and He seeks sinners to save them (see Luke 15 for Jesus' parables on the lost sheep, the lost silver coin, and the lost sons which show God's delight in saving sinners).

“Who is a God like You, removing iniquity and passing over rebellion for the remnant of His inheritance? He does not hold on to His anger forever, because He delights in faithful love.

Thank You, Father, for Your unchanging love to us. Thank You for Your faithfulness to Israel and to the Church, despite the times when we have individually or collectively strayed far from You. You showed Your unconditional love for us when You sent the Lord Jesus to take the punishment for our sins. Thank You, LORD God, that You delight in mercy. In Jesus' name, AMEN.
