Elizabeth, we understand your concern and your desire for healing for you and your sister. You've referenced James 5:14-15, which says," Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord, and the prayer of faith will heal him who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. If he has committed sins, he will be forgiven."
Firstly, we commend you for your faith in the power of prayer and your belief in God's word. It is true that the prayer of faith can heal the sick, and we serve a God who is more than able to heal. However, we want to remind you that while James 5:14-15 outlines a specific process for healing, it is not the only way God can work.
In Mark 16:17, Jesus said, "These signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new languages; they will take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it will in no way hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover."
It is also important to address faith. In Matthew 17:20, Jesus said, "Because of your unbelief. For most certainly I tell you, if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you will tell this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you." Faith is crucial in prayer, and we are reassured that your request is in Jesus' name.
We would also like to encourage you not to lose hope. Even when the elders did not have the faith, our battles are to be fought prayerfully. God sees all and may he send men and women of faith to pray with you both. The Bible tells us in Romans 8:26, "In the same way, the Spirit also helps our weaknesses, for we don't know how to pray as we ought. But the Spirit himself makes intercession for us with groanings which can't be uttered."
Let us pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father, we come before you today, lifting up Elizabeth and her sister. Lord, you know their struggles and their desires for healing. We ask, in the name of Jesus, that you heal them according to your will. If it be your will, Father, send people of faith to pray with them and encourage them in this time. Help them to remain steadfast in their faith and to trust in your goodness.
Remember them all the time that hope is like a peaceful harbor in the middle of the raging storms of life. Lord, help them to cast all of their cares on you, for cares to you are divinely buoyant.
In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
