Beloved of All
My ex and I engaged in sexting although we didn’t have physical sex. I don’t know if that counts. I’m still technically a virgin but we got intellectual/emotional/sexual gratification from one another. It was done in a very pure and loving way. But he got a little animalistic it’s why I got uncomfortable and told him to stop. I now feel bad and like I’ve been “tainted” although nothing actually happened physically. Is there a way for me to cleanse myself?

We appreciate your honesty and your desire to seek God's will in this situation. Firstly, it's crucial to address that engaging in sexting and seeking sexual gratification outside of marriage is considered fornication (Ephesians 5:3, Galatians 5:19). It is not aligned with God's design for relationships and can lead to feelings of guilt and unhappiness, as you've experienced. Even though you remained technically a virgin, the emotional and intellectual involvement in impure activities is not in line with God’s intention for us in a sexual sense. God calls us to flee from any kind of impure activity (1 Corinthians 6:18).

You mentioned that the interactions were done in a "pure and loving way," but it's important to understand that true purity comes from obeying God's commands and reserving sexual intimacy for marriage (1 Thessalonians 4:3-5).

The feeling of being "tainted" is a natural response to engaging in activities that go against God's will.

However, the good news is that there is a way to be cleansed and forgiven. The Bible tells us that if we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). This forgiveness and cleansing come through faith in Jesus Christ, who bore our sins on the cross (1 Peter 2:24). Therefore, confess your sins to God, repent, and turn away from these activities. Trust in Jesus Christ for your salvation and forgiveness.

Let us pray together for you:

"Father, we come before you in the name of Jesus Christ the lord of all. We lift up our sister who has found herself in a situation that does not align with your will. Lord, she has engaged in activities that are not pleasing to you, and she feels the weight of her actions. We ask for your forgiveness and cleansing, as promised in your word. Help her to turn away from these activities and to seek purity and righteousness. Guide her steps and lead her to a godly spouse who will honor and cherish her as you intend. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen."

Remember that God wants the best for you, and His ways are always for your good. Trust in Him and follow His paths. As a relationship forms, pursue courtship with the goal of marriage to another Christian believer, abstaining from any form of sexual activity until then.

If you have not believed in Jesus Christ, we encourage you to learn more about Him and accept Him as your Savior and Lord. If we can pray for the salvation of your ex-boyfriend, please let us know in another prayer request.

We're here for you, sister. It's commendable that you've come forward with this, seeking God's will in this situation. We understand that you're feeling uncomfortable and guilty, but remember, God's love for you is unchanging, and He's ready to forgive and cleanse you.

You're right, nothing physically happened, but it's important to acknowledge that the emotional and intellectual involvement in those activities was still against God's design for us. He wants the best for us, and that includes purity in all aspects of our lives.

Let's pray together:

"Dear Lord, we come before You in the name of Jesus. We lift up our sister, who's feeling troubled by her past actions. Lord, she engaged in activities that didn't align with Your will, and she's feeling the weight of that now. But we know, Lord, that You're a God of second chances, a God of forgiveness. We ask for Your forgiveness, Your cleansing, just as the Bible promises in 1 John 1:9. Help her to turn away from these activities, Lord, and guide her towards purity and righteousness. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen."

Let's remember, God's forgiveness is not earned, it's a gift. He's ready to forgive and cleanse you, just as He promised. Trust in Him, and let's walk in His ways together.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. Thank You Jesus!!!

Come to the Lord's holy presence. Seek him with all your heart. Cling to his Word and meditate on it moment by moment by positive thoughts and joy in the heart (James 1:2-4), knowing that the Lord is good and to him be all the praise. Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Even though life may feel hard, the Lord's hand will be on you, and he will answer in his time. I am praying for you. Amen.

We continue to lift you up in prayer, dear sister, and we are honored that you have allowed us to stand in agreement with you before the throne of grace. We want to remind you of the power of repentance and forgiveness that is available to us all through Jesus Christ.

If you have repented and turned away from the actions that made you feel distant from God, then you are cleansed and forgiven. The Bible tells us in First John 1:9, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." Even if you did not engage in physical sexual activity, if your heart was drawn away from the Lord through emotional and intellectual gratification, we would encourage exploration as to whether or not God might be calling you to confession and repentance.

Please consider the words of Jesus in Matthew 5:28, "But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart." We pray that you would find comfort and freedom from guilt. As for seeking purity, make sure to guard your heart and mind from those things which would pull you away from intimacy with the Lord. We encourage you to examine ways that might allow you to better guard your heart through accountability and community within your faith community.

If you feel that you have received the forgiveness and cleansing that only Jesus can provide and through it a renewed sense of purity, please share a praise report with us so we can rejoice with you. If you are still struggling and need continued prayer, do not hesitate to share an update so we can keep praying with you as we each press on toward the goal.

May God bless you as you continue to seek Him. May you find comfort in the assurance of His love and forgiveness. May the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, guard your heart and your mind in Christ Jesus. Amen.
