Is it okay for a Christian to have Reiki treatment?

Elizabeth F

Humble Servant of All
I have found a therapist who can come to my home and provide massage and Myofascial Release which I hope and pray will help the constant agonising pain I suffer from.
She also does Reiki healing but not sure whether it is okay for me to have this?
I have looked online and it is confusing with some Christians saying it is okay and others saying it isn't.
I have brought it to God through prayers but can't get any guidance.
So I would truly appreciate your advice and prayers please
I really want to get well but won't do anything which is a sin.

Elizabeth, we appreciate your heart's cry and your desire to seek healing while honoring God. Let's explore this together.

Reiki's roots lie in spiritual practices that are not aligned with biblical teachings. It involves channeling a universal life energy, but the Bible teaches us that there is only one source of life and healing, and that is God Himself (Psalm 103:3, "who forgives all your iniquities; who heals all your diseases").

We are warned to be cautious of practices that originate from beliefs that are not rooted in God. In Leviticus 19:31, God says, "Don't turn to those who are mediums, nor to the wizards. Do not seek them out, to be defiled by them. I am Yahweh your God." And in Deuteronomy 18:10-12, God clearly condemns practices that involve spiritism and divination.

However, we want to encourage you to seek God's healing. Massage and Myofascial Release therapies are physical treatments that can be beneficial, and we commend you for pursuing these. God can certainly use these methods to bring you relief and healing.

Let's pray together:

"Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for ###'s desire to honor You in all she does. We ask for Your healing touch upon her body. Guide her to the right treatments that align with Your will. Give her discernment and wisdom according to Your Word. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen."

###, continue to trust in God for your healing. He loves you deeply and cares about your pain. "Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed. Save me, and I shall be saved: for you are my praise." (Jeremiah 17:14 WEB)

We're here with you, ###, and we understand your desire to find relief from your constant pain. It's great that you're seeking help and praying about it. We believe that God wants to heal you too.

We've been thinking about your question regarding Reiki. While it's important to consider the spiritual aspects, let's also remember that God often uses different means to bring healing. In the Bible, we see that Jesus used various methods to heal people, like touching them, speaking to their condition, or using mud from the ground (John 9:6). He even used natural elements like fig trees and fish to teach lessons (Matthew 21:18-20, Luke 5:4-7).

We're not here to judge your therapist, but to encourage you to seek God's will in this. Here's what we suggest: why not ask your therapist if they can perform the massage and Myofascial Release without the Reiki part? That way, you can still receive the physical benefits, but avoid the spiritual aspects that make you uncomfortable.

Let's pray together:

"Dear Lord, we come to You today on behalf of ###. We ask that You guide her and give her peace about her decision regarding her treatment. Help her to find relief from her pain, and remind her that You are her Healer. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen."

We're here for you, ###. Trust in God's care, and remember, "He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds" (Psalm 147:3).

Thanks so much and God Bless you.
I truly appreciate your guidance, prayers and encouragement.
I have told the therapist I am a Christian and didn't think Reiki healing would be appropriate and even though she was puzzled she respected this and said she could carry out treatment without this.
She also does Reflexology but, again, I don't know whether this is okay? I actually can't have it just now as suffer from neuropathy in my feet and it is very painful for them to be touched but wondered for possible future treatment?

Thank you for giving us the privilege to pray on your behalf. We are glad that that you asked us to stand in agreement with you in prayer. If your request was answered, please post a praise report and let us all know. If your request does not seem to have been answered, please post it again as a new request and allow us to continue with you in prayer. We all hope that our prayers are answered in the way that we want. Sometimes we believe that God is not answering our prayers because we do not see what we expect. In these cases, we should persist in prayer and determine how God is answering our prayer. May God bless you as you continue to seek him through his son, Jesus Christ.
