I was saved when I was 9 years old in spite of opinions that I might not really understand what I was doing by "accepting Christ as my Savior."
Yet I assure you the Holy Entity touched me, letting me know I was in need of a Savior and I would never have to be lonely or deserted. I had
often felt deserted because I had no parents, but was raised by my grandparents. They were good people, it's just that I always noticed that
the other children would invite their parents to school events. My school mates would sometimes comment how old my "parents" were, and
I felt obligated to explain only a little bit.
I can only feel gratitude right now for the way I was raised. I never was involved in a "drug culture" in my growing up, when that culture certainly
existed. My grandmother saw to it that I had the opportunity to learn about God and His Son, Christ Jesus. This Blog is meant to be a turning
point for me in my writing. I am a writer and artist and a seminary graduate though I have never used my degree, as I never married a pastor,
and life sent me certainly going in other directions apart from the knowledge that I gained from learning more about religious education. My
degree I never used is a big part of who I am. God has used that time of my college life for me to get to know him more.
He is awesome, God is. I do not understand why He loves me so much. I will say he uses my flaws in spite of me to help others. I have been
a small stepping stone in the lives of others in the area of encouragement. Yet often I have been discouraged, as to myself. I have asked God
to use this additional flaw to keep me close to Him, looking to Him for answers instead of experts, opinions, trends, gossip, media headlines
whose intent is to speculate and entertain the masses or bend the masses in a political way. I am grateful that God loves me and all of us so
much that each day we wake up we have a new day in Christ to make new and better choices in spite of ourselves though there are some
that wake up and make the same choices each day. I lift these folks up to Christ too because they need His love as well.
While visiting my daughter out of state I finally received a small chance to use my degree in a way that bettered a very young boy's life. I will
call him Tally, that is not his real name. I do this to respect his privacy as a unique little boy who will finally have a really
nice family life where he is involved, included, and has the opportunity to attend school upon a regular basis. I was asked to evaluate his
educational needs to help his school place him at a good starting point for his learning.
Tally had been living with his mother and father in one motel after another. His parents are addicted to meth amphetamine. Tally was always
treated as a baby even though he is five years old. He cannot speak well; a speech impediment, that with practice in speaking to other people
should eventually disappear. He has some difficulty in pronouncing words because he was often left
alone to entertain himself while his mother slept a lot. His father was often working or looking for work. Even though Tally was left alone, his mother
would allow him to play with her cell phone and he learned to draw pictures on the cell phone in a basic manner. Very bright and eager to learn,
his parents dumped him off with a relative. Since that relative was actually too sick to care for Tally, she moved him to yet another good
relative for safe-keeping. Now Tally has a good home and he has been enrolled in kindergarten. He has new clothes that fit and new shoes and
school supplies which he is very proud of. He is even more proud of his very own sleeping area and that he gets to eat regularly. Instead of two
indifferent adults as parents, he now has an entire group of caring people that interact with him as often as possible, and that is a lot of the time,
for this family group is particularly involved in each others lives and they care for each other and Tally.
Tally's mother is now in hospital where she will eventually "rehabilitate" again and not "use" for a short time, then she will go back into the
addict lifestyle again, meet another man and have more babies again. Three of her children have been given up, so far. One of the
children is going to college and will be entering the medical field, the other child is still school age. The other children are with people who
care about them as well.
Just a reminder to other people out there who come across people that they want to help. Always be sure to help out of the goodness of your
heart, expecting nothing in return. Leave all the results up to God. He has been managing His own creation ever since the beginning of time
and only occasionally needs our feet, our hands, our eyes and ears to lend a "helping hand" to those in great need for a "hand up."
