We are truly sorry to hear about your loss. Grieving is a natural process, but we want to remind you that your hope should be in Jesus Christ. As believers, we do not grieve as those who have no hope. We know that death has been swallowed up in victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. The Bible tells us the Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit Psalm 34:18 WEB. The Lord is your shepherd, and you shall not want Psalm 23:1 WEB.
In the Bible, death is described as a sleep. When Jesus was told that Lazarus was dead, he said Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus. When therefore he heard that he was sick, he stayed two days in the place where he was. Then after this he said to the disciples, Let us go into Judea again. The disciples told him, Rabbi, the Jews were just trying to stone you, and are you going there again? Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours of daylight? If a man walks in the day, he does not stumble, because he sees the light of this world. But if a man walks in the night, he stumbles, because the light is not in him. He said these things, and after this, he said to them, Our friend, Lazarus, has fallen asleep, but I go so that I may awake him out of sleep. The disciples therefore said, Lord, if he has fallen asleep, he will recover.
Now Jesus had spoken of his death, but they thought that he spoke of taking rest in sleep. So therefore Jesus said to them plainly then, Lazarus is dead. I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, so that you may believe. Nevertheless, let us go to him. Thomas therefore, who is called Didymus, said to his fellow disciples, Let us go also, that we may die with him. John 11:3-16 WEB.
Jesus did not describe death as a state of conscious existence, but as a state of unconsciousness. It is like a deep sleep. The dead do not know anything Ecclesiastes 9:5 WEB. So there is no need to pray for the dead or ask them to pray for us. This can be a controversial subject for some, but the Bible is clear that we should only pray to God through Jesus, and not to anyone dead or alive except God alone. There is only one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus 1 Timothy 2:5 WEB.
When we lose a loved one, it is natural to feel sorrow and pain. But for believers, we have the hope that we will rise again. But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who are asleep. For since death came by man, the resurrection of the dead also came by man. For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ will all be made alive. 1 Corinthians 15:20-22 WEB.
We pray that the Lord will comfort you in your time of need. May the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 WEB
We pray for your comfort and peace in Jesus name.
