Is it Okay to Dabble in the Occult?
And when they say to you, “Inquire of the mediums and the necromancers who chirp and mutter,†should not a people inquire of their God? Should they inquire of the dead on behalf of the living?
Isaiah 8:19
Before the invention of digital recorders for our televisions, I used to be quite the channel surfer. It would drive everyone in my family crazy! As soon as a commercial would come on, I’d switch channels and see what else was on. Then, I’d check periodically to see if my show was back on.
Inevitably when I was channel surfing, I’d always come across one of those commercials for psychics. They could tell you all about your love life, your finances, and your family if you’d only call that 1-900 number for $3 a minute!
Back in the day, I knew lots of churchgoers who actually bought into that foolishness. And even today, many self-professing Christians dabble in the occult through horoscopes, astrology, and even trying to communicate with the dead.
I understand the desire to have answers, especially with so much uncertainty in life. But the place to look for those answers isn’t to dabble in the occult. To find those answers, we need to seek God.
The Bible is clear when it comes to mediums, horoscopes, and psychics: steer clear, you would be opening your life up to demons! Instead, seek God through His Word and His Spirit and trust in His timing for the answers.
TO FIND ANSWERS TO LIFE’S UNCERTAINTIES, TRUST IN GOD, NOT THE OCCULT, AND WAIT FOR HIS PERFECT TIMING.
