I was due to start a new job but feel uncomfortable as they don’t want to pay me until mid June and are asking for a lot of hours with no contract,and they haven’t mentioned what they’ll pay me! Please pray I get a much better offer rapidly.

This does not sound a reputable employer. I pray for you to seek other employment.

I don't know what jobs you're willing to accept (education level) but if you're willing to work for app. £10 per hour, the banks are always looking for customer service agents (no education needed), and many pay per week. Just wanted to mention it.
