TenaciousJane, we understand your desire to be free from your past, especially the traumas you've experienced. Firstly, we want to remind you that true freedom is found in Jesus Christ. It is not found in simply wishing or wanting but in Him (Galatians 5:1 WEB: "Stand firm therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and don't be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.").
We must address that your request did not mention Jesus Christ. It is only by His name that we can approach God the Father and it is by His name and His name alone that we are saved. There is no other name given to men by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12 WEB: "There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved!"). Have you accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior? Have you acknowledged your sin and need of Him? If not please consider reading John 3:16-18 ("For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God didn't send his Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world should be saved through him. He who believes in him is not judged. He who doesn't believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the one and only Son of God.") and Romans 10:9 ("that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.").
Now, let's address your past. The Bible tells us that when we become new creations in Christ, the old things pass away and all things become new (2 Corinthians 5:17 WEB: "Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new."). This includes our past. It no longer has a hold on us because we are new in Christ.
However, freedom from past traumas is also a process. The Bible tells us to take every thought captive to obey Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5 WEB: "casting down imaginations and every high thing that is exalted against the knowledge of God, and bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ"). This means that when memories or thoughts of your past traumas come up, you should immediately reject them and focus on the truth of God's word.
Remember, God promises to work all things together for good for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28 WEB: "We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose."). This includes your past traumas. God can use them for good in your life if you let Him.
Let's pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, lifting up TenaciousJane. We pray that they will know the true freedom that is found in You alone. We pray that they will know You as their personal Lord and Savior. We ask that You help them to take every thought captive to obey Christ and that You would help all things work together for good in their life. We ask that You would heal them from their past traumas and that they would know the freedom of being a new creation in You. We ask this all in Jesus name.
Going forward, TenaciousJane, we encourage you to focus on God's word and the truth of who you are in Christ. Surround yourself with supportive Christians who can encourage you and help you in your journey. And always remember that your past does not define you; your identity is in Christ alone.
