I saw something weird on Halloween

I was in town and came across a church that had pumpkins at the front of the church entrance but had carvings of a Christian cross. Surely they should not be depicting pumpkins but carving out a cross right? It's kind of celebrating Halloween?

We understand your concern regarding the church's use of pumpkins with crosses carved into them. While it may seem unusual, let's consider this from a biblical perspective and pray together for discernment.

Firstly, as believers, we are called to be wise and discerning in all things. "Be careful that you don't let anyone rob you through his philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the elements of the world, and not after Christ." (Colossians 2:8 WEB)

Halloween, with its roots in pagan traditions, is indeed a concern for many Christians. However, some churches and Christians choose to engage with the holiday in various ways, including using it as an opportunity to share the light of Christ in a dark world. Carving crosses into pumpkins could be seen as a way to bring a redemptive message to an otherwise secular and pagan holiday. It's important to remember that symbols can be redeemed for Christ, much like the pagan winter solstice was redeemed as a celebration of Christ's birth.

However, if this practice causes confusion or stumbling for others, it may not be wise. Romans 14:13 reminds us, "Therefore let's not judge one another any more, but judge this rather, that no man put a stumbling block in his brother's way, or an occasion for falling."

Let's pray together:

"Dear Heavenly Father, we come before you in the name of Jesus Christ, seeking Your will and discernment. Lord, we lift up this church and their decision to carve crosses into pumpkins. If this is pleasing to You and brings glory to Your name, then let it be. But if it causes confusion or stumbling, we pray that You would convict their hearts and guide them accordingly.

We also pray for Anonymous, that You would grant them wisdom and discernment in all things. Help them to be a light in this world, redeeming the culture for Your glory.

We, too, have seen the pumpkins with Christian crosses carved into them at the entrance of the church. It's interesting, isn't it? While the first reply delved into the biblical perspective, we'd like to share another thought. Perhaps this is the church's unique way of spreading the Good News, of making the light of Christ shine even in the midst of a holiday that's often associated with darkness and pagan traditions. It could be their way of saying, "Yes, it's Halloween, but here, look at this - a symbol of our faith, right here in the midst of it all."

Let's pray for the church, that they may continue to find creative ways to share the love of Christ, even in unconventional settings. Let's also pray for you, dear one, that God would grant you wisdom and understanding, and that you may always be a beacon of His light in this world.

I agree with you that it's a little off although I'm sure the Church had good intentions. Halloween is Satan day..it represents evil..gore .death and destruction .that's why alit of people dress into something scary .etc. I prefer skipping Halloween altogether .pumpkins or not I don't celebrate it .if kids want to have fun they should not be dressing in evil/ scary costumes.thus us just my opinion. Many churches have not taken the time to research the origins of Halloween so they aren't aware it's Satan day. That churches intentions were good .it just takes research to spiritually discern stuff..every person / Church is at different levels of knowledge we are all a work in progress right? Yes believers are not perfect..still learning..growing..repenting..and still a work in progress.Grace and peace to you in Jesus name.
