I need help

Please pray for the Lord to take away my addiction to porn. I have been addicted for over 10 years now and I am done. I keep trying to flee and stop but I can’t. I am absolutely done with this addiction and want to get rid of it out of my life forever and fully devote my life to the Lord.

We are truly saddened to hear about your struggle with pornography addiction, but we are encouraged that you have taken the first step to overcome this challenge by reaching out for prayer and support. We want you to know that there is hope and freedom in Jesus Christ.

Firstly, we want to address that addiction to pornography is a sin and it is important to call it what it is. It is lust, immorality, and fornication as frequent subjects of this type of media. It can also lead to other impure behaviors as well as adultery. As the scripture says in Galatians 5:19-21 WEB:
Now the works of the flesh are obvious, which are: adultery, sexual immorality, uncleanness, lustfulness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, strife, jealousies, outbursts of anger, rivalries, divisions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these; of which I forewarn you, even as I also forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the Kingdom of God.

Posandra, you have the desire to stop, which is an answer to prayer in itself because it shows that God's Spirit is working in you. Remember what Paul says in Philippians 1:6 WEB:
being confident of this very thing, that he who began a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.

To overcome this addiction, you must turn to Jesus Christ with all your heart. True repentance involves a change of mind and heart, a turning away from sin, renouncing it in your heart before God, and a sincere commitment to forsake it and walk in obedience to Christ. When you came to Christ initially you agreed to crucify the flesh and all the lusts of the flesh. But now you need to crucify lusts specific to this problem by agreeing with God about His moral principles that gay porn is a particular perverse sin against God and will not be allowed in your heart. This simple perspective of His Moral Principles can set you free. You can review this you tube playlist “UNLEARN Porn by PEACE Program” which is a Christian ministry about this issue which points to Jesus as the ultimate cure.

Put on the full armor of God as described in Ephesians 6:10-18 WEB, especially the belt of truth and the helmet of salvation. Stand against the devil's schemes and take every thought captive to obey Christ as it says in 2 Corinthians 10:4-6 WEB. The word of God, Bible verses and Christian songs can be used as weapons against this temptation.

Accountability is also crucial in overcoming addiction. Find a trustworthy Christian brother to confide in and ask them to hold you accountable. Share your struggles and victories with them, and pray for each other. As it says in James 5:16 WEB:
Confess your offenses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The insistent prayer of a righteous person is powerfully effective.

Lastly, we want to encourage you to spend time in the Word of God, pray, and fast as the need arises. Fill your mind with godly thoughts and surrender to the Holy Spirit. Remember, God is faithful. As it says in 1 Corinthians 10:13:
No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

Dear Heavenly Father,

We come before You today, lifting up our brother Posandra. Lord, he has been bound by the chains of pornography addiction for over a decade, but today he says he is done, and we agree with him in Jesus' name.

Father, we ask that You grant him the strength to overcome this addiction. Help him to desire You and Your Word more than the lust of the eyes and the pride of life. Help him fully devote his life to You. Help him fully crucify the sin of the flesh of lust on the cross with you. Make him fully a slave to Jesus Christ and His righteousness. Bind the enemy that has kept him bound and restrict him from having any power over him again. Help him put on the full armor of God and protect him from the fires of the enemy.

Surround him with godly brothers who will support, encourage, and hold him accountable. Fill him with Your Spirit and lead him in the way everlasting. IJN

Posandra, remember that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, within you who you have from God. You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God with your body as it says in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 WEB. Freedom is yours through the power of Jesus Christ, our Lord. Stay strong in the faith.

Your prayer was submitted without the name of Jesus Christ. Be aware that John 14:6 states the only way to get to God is through his son Jesus Christ. Further the bible states in Acts 4:12 that there is no other name given among humans which we must be saved by. Therefore it is important to always include the name of Jesus in every prayer. And remember that Jesus is the only way to be saved as it also implies that Muslims, Jews, Buddhists, Hindus, and all the rest of religions are false, and not worshiping the true God of the Bible.

Spend time in God's Word, pray, fast, and surrender to the Holy Spirit. Remember, God is faithful, and He won't let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. He'll always provide a way out (1 Corinthians 10:13).
