We are truly sorry to hear about the devastation that gambling has caused in your life. Firstly, we want to remind you that God loves you tremendously, and He is always there to help you in your time of need, just as you have acknowledged. You can find comfort in the His words. God will not leave you nor forsake you, even to the end of the age. Remember this promise, We are with you always, even to the end of the age Matthew 28:20 (WEB)
We appreciate and understand your desire for God's intervention, and we know that God can help you overcome this addiction. It is important to know and acknowledge who the devil is and the attitude of many of God's ancient people. Unfortunately, just like the children of Israel would not listen to God and His prophets because they preferred wickedness, like gambling and many other abominations to heaven. The people would not receive correction from God's prophets because they had a heart of unrepentant wickedness in the midst of their troubles, deserving punishment. We do not want to remain in the midst of wickedness and receive punishment because of habitual unrepentant sin. Our attitude should be like Josiah, king of Judah who repented when reading God's words so that God would turn from His anger. We must acknowledge our sin and change from our wicked ways so God will hear from heaven and heal our land. 2 Chronicles 7:14 (WEB).
However, 2 Chronicles 36:15 (WEB) states "Yahweh, the God of their fathers, sent to them by his messengers, rising up early and sending, because he had compassion on his people, and on his dwelling place; but they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and scoffed at his prophets, until Yahweh's wrath arose against his people, until there was no remedy." The nature of the heart of the people was firmly wicked and unrepentant. Even when God rose up early to tell them to turn from their wicked ways, but they had the heart of mocking towards God's messengers, despising His words, and scoffed at His prophets so amidst compassion from God upon His people, there is no remedy. In the New Testament, Acts 3:19 states But you should repent and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, so that so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord.
Let us pray together for you.
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before you today, lifting up our dear brother Fewrone, who is struggling with the addiction to gambling. We believe in this: If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9 We pray that you will intervene and deliver him from this bondage, that you will give him the strength to overcome this addiction, and that you will restore all that he has lost. We pray for his heart to be truly sincere for remorse and repentance to turn towards your words and our Lord Jesus Christ.
We also pray that you will fill him with your peace, that he may live the rest of his days in tranquility and free from this burden.
Let us remember that if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed. John 8:36.
Let him put on the armor of God so that he may be able to fight against the schemes of the devil.
Let him be delivered from the snare of the devil, even to turn a sinner away from the error of his ways and may save a soul from death, and may cover a multitude of sins. James 5:20
Help him to to be sober and self-controlled. Help him be watchful, because his adversary, the devil, walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. 1 Peter 5:8
We ask this in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, who alone is the way, the truth, and the life and the only way to God the Father, the first one among the dead and the ruler of the kings of the earth. Amen!
First, make sure to give Jesus Christ control over your life. To do this, believe the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, that He died for your sins, and rose again, and ask that He will be Lord over every area of your life, including your struggle with gambling, in keeping with Romans 10:9.
We encourage you to seek godly counsel and accountability, perhaps from your pastor or a trusted Christian friend. Remember that you are not alone in this struggle. God is with you, and He will help you overcome. In keeping with James 5:16, also go to your church leaders and a close Christian brother to confess and to pray with you for deliverance.
We also urge you to stay away from all gambling establishments and online gambling platforms. It is better to get thrown away into the sea with a millstone around the neck than to cause one of the least of God's little ones to stumble. However, woe to anyone who causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin! It would be better for him if a large millstone were hung around his neck and he were thrown into the sea. Mark 9:42. This verse uses strong language to say it is far better to not be tempted at all than to fall into sin! Those who provide the ability to gamble and to live like the devil causes sin and sorrow! Your money is better kept in your wallet or your retirement account than to gamble in a casino or online and squandered! Avoid it altogether.
Lastly, stay strong in the Word of God and in prayer.
Remember "Finally, be strong in the Lord, and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world's rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore, put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and, having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having the utility belt of truth buckled around your waist, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having fitted your feet with the preparation of the Good News of peace, besides all these, taking the shield of faith, with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the evil one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit; Which is the word of God, with all prayer and requests, praying at all times in the Spirit, and being watchful to this end in all perseverance and requests for all the saints." Ephesians 6:10-18. Let us tangibly apply this to our every day lives as all of these spiritual things have real world application such as our jobs, our finances, our speech, and our thoughts! The word of God and prayer may not seem to address gambling directly. However, we must know that it does, because if we have victory with Jesus and are firmly rooted in His word and prayer, then it will affect all lifestyles and decisions.
Let us continue in prayer for you, Fewrone.
