I HAVE SEEN HIS WAYS, BUT I WILL HEAL HIM!
“I have seen his ways, but I will heal him; I will guide him and restore comfort to him, creating praise on the lips of the mourners in Israel. Peace, peace, to those far and near,†says the Lord. “And I will heal them.†Isaiah 57:18
“God, do you see all that my spouse to doing to me? Where are You? Why are You not standing up and defending me and our children? How long do I have to wait?†Will you believe that God can touch and transform your spouse into the man or woman of God that you are praying and waiting for their personal encounter with the Lord? What a promise! I will heal them, but when?
Is that how you feel sometimes? Yes, I know. Because I did, also. But then I found out that the Lord does speak to His children. I often felt like I had a one-way conversation with my Lord. Then I cried out to my Lord one day to speak to me. “Write Your words on the wall, but speak to me, so that I know that what I am doing is Your will and right in Your holy eyes.†I can remember that evening so clearly today, as I was so desperate to know what to do and if God was really wanting me to believe and pray for marriage restoration. Remember, I gave up on Bob and God and had divorced Bob due to his unfaithfulness. I talked to my pastor and counselor and they agreed that my marriage was hopeless and Bob would never change. Never doubt the power of God transforming the worst of sinners as Saul/Paul says in Acts 9.
That is when the Lord started speaking to my heart and having God’s Word, the Bible, seem to come alive to me. God told me through many scriptures that He wanted me to wait for my husband. Scriptures would just seem to be highlighted or would speak to my heart. Have you had that happen? Cry out to your Lord. He wants you to hear His plan and purpose for your marriage. He wants you to obey His voice.
“‘Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.’†Jeremiah 33:3
“…Obey me, and I will be your God and you will be my people. Walk in all the ways I command you, that it may go well with you.†Jeremiah 7:23
Do you dissect scriptures that speak to your heart? I often cross-reference special scriptures. When the Lord gives me a “rhema†word that touches my heart or seems to leap off the page, I write it down in “My Daily Promise Journal.†It is on my desk all the time or with my Bible so I am able to write down any special scriptures. May I strongly suggest you journal in some way during your spiritual journey with your Lord. These scriptures, promises, songs, dreams or signs are all nuggets of gold that you will treasure the rest of your life.
The scripture above in Isaiah 57:18 was given to me many years ago when I was standing, crying out to my Lord, to show me if He was going to restore our marriage. I kept asking, “Are You really going to touch and change my husband's heart?†You see I was just like you when standing!
Then one night, on September 20, the Lord gave me the scripture from Isaiah 57:14-21. It came alive to my heart. How many times does the Lord have to speak to your heart for you to believe Him? Take one of your scriptures and put your spouse’s name in it as a prayer, thanking the Lord that He is moving on the other side of your mountain. You must praise the Lord, trust Him, keep standing firm in your faith and obey the Lord. Then choose to believe like Abraham did.
Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him, “So shall your offspring be.†Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead--since he was about a hundred years old--and that Sarah's womb was also dead. Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised. This is why “it was credited to him as righteousness.†Romans 4:18-22
Will you be like Abraham and believe that nothing is too hard for God to do? I did many years ago. I started reading God’s Word and believed the promises of God were for me and my family. You will be so blessed, encouraged and your faith will grow as you surrender your heart, life and marriage to the Lord.
The Lord started speaking to me. “Build up, build up, prepare the road! Remove the obstacles out of the way of my people.†Are you ready for your spouse to come home now, suddenly? You need to prepare your home, and remove any and all obstacles that may be blocking the road. The Lord wants you to have the road that leads straight to your home and heart open and all debris removed that could block the healing and restoration of your marriage. Are there piles of stones of unforgiveness or jealousy blocking the road? Have you been stuffing down anger or bitterness or unforgiveness that could destroy your homecoming before your spouse pulls up into your driveway? The Lord is giving you notice and warning to prepare your road and your home inside and out to be totally ready to receive your spouse with unconditional love, forgiveness and open arms.
And it will be said: “Build up, build up, prepare the road! Remove the obstacles out of the way of my people.†For this is what the high and lofty One says—he who lives forever, whose name is holy: “I live in a high and holy place, but also with him who is contrite and lowly in spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly and to revive the heart of the contrite.†Isaiah 57:14-15
The Lord knows the condition of your spouse all the time you are praying for restoration of your marriage. He knows all that has to be done in both of your hearts. The Lord wants to revive your spouse's heart to be contrite and lowly in spirit. The American College Dictionary says contrite means to be: broken in spirit by a sense of guilt; penitent; a contrite sinner. My Full Life Study Bible says in the study notes: It is someone who is oppressed by the burden of sin and wants to find freedom from its enslavement; “lowly in spirit†refers to those who are brokenhearted because of life's calamities and afflictions.
May I suggest you pray Psalm 51 with your spouse’s name in it regularly. Here is a sample prayer for today:
Have mercy on ÂÂÂ_____, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out _____’s transgressions. Wash away all our iniquities and cleanse us from our sins….Create in both of us a pure heart and renew a steadfast spirit within us….Restore to us the joy of your salvation and grant us a willing spirit, to sustain us. Psalm 51:1-2, 10, 12
The Lord needs at least one person who is willing to follow His commands to do all that He wants you to do to prepare your driveway to become the road of righteousness for your spouse to drive home on. Then the Lord will start the process of marriage restoration.
Oh, that hundreds of prodigal spouses, prodigal teenagers and young adults every week around the world would have a broken spirit and a broken and contrite heart, turning to their Lord Jesus Christ asking for forgiveness, healing and cleansing from all their sins. There is freedom when Jesus Christ becomes Savior and Lord of their lives. Never stop praying.
Believe in the first scripture that I shared today that says: “I have seen his ways, but I will heal him; I will guide him and restore comfort to him...Peace, peace to those far and near,â€' says the Lord. “And I will heal them.†Isaiah 57:18-19
What a promise! May you and I continue to “turn up the heat†in the prayer closet until you are seeing your marriage restored and your spouse is a believer praising the Lord. Then may you continue to pray for all marriages that are in the process of marriage restoration and for all the prodigals who are blinded and deceived to have their own personal Damascus Road experience and be set free from their prison of sin!
Yet the LORD longs to be gracious to you; he rises to show you compassion. For the LORD is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for him! Isaiah 30:18
