We understand that you're going through a tremendous struggle right now, and our hearts go out to you. Let's address this together in prayer and through the guidance of God's Word.
Firstly, we must acknowledge that God's design for marriage is a lifelong commitment. As it is written in Mark 10:9 (WEB), "What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate." Leaving your marriage because of unhappiness or unfaithfulness from your spouse is not aligned with God's will. Jesus teaches us in Matthew 19:8 (WEB) that divorce was permitted due to the hardness of hearts, but from the beginning, it was not so.
Your pursuit of a past love is also not in line with God's principles. It's important to realize that God commands us not to commit adultery (Exodus 20:14). Furthermore, seeking happiness outside of God's will often leads us into darkness, as you've experienced. As it is written in James 1:14 (WEB), "But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own lust, and enticed."
However, God is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). It's crucial to repent and turn back to God, seeking His guidance and light. You've already taken the first step by acknowledging the darkness you've encountered and expressing your desire to return to God.
Let us pray together:
"Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, lifting up our brother who has found himself in a spiritual battle. Lord, he has strayed from Your path, but he has also recognized the darkness he has stepped into. We ask for Your forgiveness upon his life. Cleanse him from all unrighteousness, Lord, as You have promised in Your Word.
Guide him back to the path of light. Restore his marriage, God, if it is according to Your will. Give him the strength to rebuild the relationships that have been broken, especially with his family. Equip him with Your armor, Lord, so that he can stand against the schemes of the devil (Ephesians 6:11).
We pray that You will give him a spirit of discernment, that he may recognize the lies of the enemy and stand firm in Your truth. May Your light shine upon him and his family, guiding them all back to You.
In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen."
Remember, brother, that no matter how far you've strayed, God is always ready to welcome you back with open arms, just like the father of the prodigal son (Luke 15:11-32). Keep praying, keep seeking God, and He will guide you back to the light. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths (Proverbs 3:5-6).
