We are glad that you have reached out, Unathi, and we want to assure you that there is hope and restoration in Jesus Christ. The Bible tells us that everyone has sinned and falls short of the glory of God, but through faith and believing in the gospel message there is forgiveness and redemption for all who call on His name and believe by faith, repent of their sins and sin no more. (Romans 3:23-26; 6:1-2, 10:9-13, 16:25-27; Luke 24:47, John 14:6; Acts 3:19; 1 Peter 3:18 WEB).
Firstly, it is important to acknowledge that gambling is a form of greed and covetousness, which is idolatry and causes many problems which the scriptures warn about. The love of money leads to many sorrows, evil and temptations. (See 1Tim 6:6-11 WEB).
We may think we are entertaining ourselves with a harmless pastime, but it is akin to loving money. Do not be deceived, God cannot tolerate this thinking when He will only allow holy thinking where we are soveriegn over money rather than it over us. Please read and think about the scriptures in 1Tim 3:3 and Heb 13:5-7 WEB.
It is a sin against God and He is jealous for us to worship only Him, to fear only Him and love Him the most. (See Ex 20:1-5 WEB). This is preventing you from spiritual growth and recklessly wasting time, energy, and resources that God has entrusted you with for purposes of glorifying Him.
This can paralyze your prayers and your relationship with God and prevent you from achieving what He has called you to do. Jesus said in Matt 6:24 WEB "No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other; or else he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Mammon. Mammon is greedy for riches by any ungodly means. Put all gambling behind you and start fresh. Every day is a new beginning to walk in his ways.
But do not just put off gambling or slandering but also put on the knowledge with judgement of the will of God and promoting unity, love, and building each other up and the kingdom and role in it with the gifts God has granted you. (Eph 4:22, 26-32; WEB).
Gossiping and slandering, sticking your nose in other people's business, and speaking evil of them is also sinful and causes divisions. This can break relationships and break down trust and unity. God wants us to edify, encourage and build up one another.
"Do not speak against one another, brothers and sisters. He who speaks against a brother and judges his brother, speaks against the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law, but a judge. Only one is the lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy. But who are you to judge another?" (James 4:11 WEB)
"Do not be deceived, God is not mocked. For whatever a man may sow, that he also reaps." (Galatians 6:7 WEB).
We will pray for your deliverance and strength to overcome these struggles. Remember, God is faithful and will provide a way out of temptation. By first believing by faith, that you can do everything though Christ strengthening you. (Philippians 4:13 WEB) Stand your ground, God can deal with it as you ask for His help in Jesus name.
Let us pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before you today, lifting up our brother Unathi. Lord, he has confessed his struggles with gambling and slandering and maintaining steady spiritual growth of godliness. We know every sin has been forgiven on the cross, but the ongoing sin and thought life and actions should cease to bring you glory and not hinder our prayers.
Thank you for the blood of Jesus Christ that covers all our sin and bestows full forgiveness when we place our trust and faith in Jesus Christ. Please help Unathi to rightly acknowledge Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord in the gospel and believe on Him the resurrected one that can be called on in prayer and trusted in for forgiveness of sins. Guide him in his spiritual growth and the journey of sanctification and to run away and cease from every type of sin.
We believe In Jesus name by which we should ask God for everything, that Unathi can be redeemed from the power of these sins, and that the chains of addiction and unhealthy desires can be loosened and removed.
Help Unathi walk in integrity, and remain blameless. Please fill him with the Holy Spirit who will give him discernment, wisdom, and self-control. Put to death by the Spirit violence, strife, deception, lying, pride, and selfish ambitions. Instead put on with Christ Jesus and His Spirit kindness, compassion, tenderness, peace, humility, and meekness or gentleness. (Col 3:9-12 WEB).
Strengthen Unathi's desire to live a holy and righteous life that honors God in action and truth. In Jesus Christ's name we pray, Amen.
Remember, Unathi, there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, as we are only to condemn the sinful ways and not a spirit that is in agreement with it; but we are to come to the throne of grace confidently to obtain mercy and find grace to help in every time of need. (Rom 8:1, Heb 4:6 WEB).
Only when we die to sin and to ourselves as Jesus did crucifying the fleshly desires of the sinful flesh can we live in Him and He live in us as we take up our cross and follow Him (Rom 8:13 WEB. Colossians 3:3-11, 17 WEB). Count this true.
If there are demons need to be cast off, or strongholds and yokes that need to be destroyed, broken, or loosed and cut off, we trust and believe in faith that Jesus can do it and we explicitly pray for this in Jesus name. You have called on Jesus and He will answer you. Stand you ground against sin and Satan and you will experience the peace of God that passes all understanding. (Mark 16:17 WEB) (Ephesians 6:10-18. WEB) (Luke 10:19 WEB) (James 4:7 WEB.)
