We understand that you are going through a challenging time in your marriage, and we want to lift you and your husband Todd up in prayer and provide biblical guidance.
Firstly, let's pray:
Dear Heavenly Father, we come before you in the name of Jesus Christ, lifting up our sister momowei and her husband Todd. Lord, you know the struggles they are facing in their marriage. We pray for Your divine intervention, that You would soften Todd's heart and turn it towards his wife. Help him to see the truth and not be swayed by the advice of others that may not align with Your will. Lord, we pray for peace that surpasses all understanding to guard momowei's heart and mind in Christ Jesus. We ask that You would grant her restful sleep and emotional stability during this trial. Lord, we also pray for Todd's job situation, that You would provide him with stable income and that his house would be prepared and sold as needed. Guide them both to see and follow Your will. Encourage them to stand together on the Rock. Teach him how to love her, and give counsel in Jesus. Show them how to pray together, fast together, and have Your Joy in this that he sees it is Your will rather than the enemy's. May Christ and Christ alone be the center of their marriage and hearts.
In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
Now, let's look at what the Bible says about marriage and reconciliation. Marriage is a lifelong commitment, and God desires for couples to work towards reconciliation and restoration. As the Lord said:
He answered, "Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female, and said, 'For this cause a man shall leave his father and mother, and shall be joined to his wife; and the two shall become one flesh?' So that they are no more two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate."
Matthew 19:4-6 WEB
Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the assembly, being himself the savior of the body. But as the assembly is subject to Christ, so let the wives also be to their own husbands in everything.
Ephesians 5:22-24 WEB
God has called each wife to be subject to her husband and to respect him and for each husband to love his wife as Christ loves the church. Prayer and fasting is an excellent route of discernment for Todd. God even said husbands may be won over by the behavior of the wife without a word being spoken. Ensure your words and your body language honor the code of God.
Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the assembly, and gave himself up for it.
Ephesians 5:25 WEB
It is essential for husbands to love and care for their wives, just as Christ loved and cared for the church. Pray that Todd would understand and follow this command. Just remember to believe that Christ is the one that can only fulfill our needs rather than blaming or being angry with Todd. You are both sinners and will need a savior to help you through this and it will take time.
Pray too for any root of bitterness that may be present that Todd or momowei may have one against the other or anyone else. Though we have not heard the full story, we suggest that there might be unforgiveness or anger in Todd's heart as this is a common problem. We think it is possible that Todd needs to forgive you for something, forgive God for something, or otherwise deal with unforgiveness and some other person or possibly himself. Reading angrier in Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) victims is a common symptom of PTSD. Offer Todd a lesson in forgiveness and have it be from the whole family. Even if it is an apology and forgiveness ceremony. Let him establish a relationship again with your parents or family and vice versa. Make sure his faith is grounded in Jesus and study the Bible together and with him and suggest other men or women who have experience in recovery for Todd and mentor him.
If it is God's will that you and Todd remain married, then trust that He will make a way. If Todd decides to proceed with the annulment or divorce due to lack of forgiveness, then it's possible that the marriage could be broken due to hardness of heart rather than lack of truth or even simply lack of communication. However, this does not give you the right to marry another. Remarriage is only permitted after divorce, biblically speaking, in the case of adultery.
The woman who is divorced shall not marry again. She is to remain single or else be reconciled to her husband
1 Corinthians 7:10-11 WEB
But I tell you that whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery; and he who marries her when she is divorced commits adultery.
Matthew 19:9 WEB
It is important to remember that if your husband does go through he will only have the option to remarry if there was adultery and it is only possible to the other believers. Otherwise he must remain unmarried or reconcile with you. However, with Christ and Christ alone there is hope. Only with Jesus is the impossible even possible. Pray for archeologists uncovering evidence, doctors witnessing supernatural healing of the human body, those who witness supernatural love with people that should be enemies, or with supernaturally changed hearts and lives in those that do not yet know the Gospel, that Jesus and Jesus alone can even at all supernaturally save Todd's and momowei's marriage you. Continue to pray for Todd. Let us even know how to guide you further. Study and share with Todd all the scriptures on divorce.
We encourage you to keep praying for your marriage in Jesus Christ name, continue to act in a way that is pleasing to God, and trust in Him to work things out according to His will. Keep your heart focused on God and towards reconciliation and restoration of your marriage with the help of Jesus and not there things. It is always wise to talk to your Pastor at your local Christian Church and seek a marriage staff who can help too but remember to never go to a marriage counselor who does not accept the Bible Jesus Christ. As Jesus healed the brokenhearted and you may be one of them but the news or council or unbiblical money seeking counselor who does not know Jesus may even be the wolf who will separate the sheep from the shepherd in this divorce. Jesus healed the brokenhearted.
Remember, nothing is impossible with God and there is no root of bitterness that God can not fix if there is one but he is weary of the prayers of who do not know Christ yet so use this time as for the eternal good. God is not against women and children as Jesus rebuked the Pharisees about divorce. So have hope and If the divorce does go ahead, If you haven't heard the message yet, God does love you and want a relationship with you.
Remember the men people call Christians who do wrong or claim to be a Christian that may scare Todd or you are like an advertisement for satan. And they may be a reason for your marriage problems, Get a mature Christian believing man to guide Todd if he is going to mentor Todd. Todd may need a single not divorced man for fellowship. Talk to your parents too about this. Find the local Pastors who you can talk to about salvation and even submit to Todd when you are struggling with that issue and remind him of this too. Find your hope in that nothing is impossible with Christ but without Christ nothing is even possible. God is the author of marriage and gave it rituals of passion, love, respect, care, protection, time, and help meeting needs. When divorce happens it is a hateful amputation of union. So trust in Him in His good will. May He guide us all.
