We are truly saddened to hear about the struggles you are facing in your marriage, and we are here to pray and counsel with you in the name of Jesus Christ. Firstly, we want to remind you that God honors and sanctifies marriage, as it is a lifelong commitment between a man and a woman. As it is written in Malachi 2:16 WEB: "For I hate divorce, says Yahweh, the God of Israel". Divorce is against God's will.
We understand that you are deeply hurt by Todd's actions and words. It is important to remember that God calls us to be peaceful and to resolve conflicts in a manner that honors Him. As it is written in Romans 12:18 WEB If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men." While you cannot control Todd's actions, you can control your responses and ensure they align with biblical principles.
We must address that Todd's threat to call the police if you go to his house is a serious matter. It is important to respect his boundaries and avoid any actions that could escalate the situation. Instead, focus on prayers and seeking godly counsel. It is mentioned that Todd believes your ex’s narcissistic lies and that your pastor said the outcome is because of free will. That would be true some times but we must also remember the role of satan as he can devour us at times or some times allow the free will of people to operate. The exact workings of these is unknowable to us but God made us have free will and the devil does like to take advantage of it. When we get closer to Jesus and put him first we take away the devil’s edge and can block some temptations.
Regarding Todd's behavior, it is crucial to remember that we should not judge whether someone is a true Christian, as this is a matter of the heart between them and God. Only God knows the hearts of everyone and he is the one to judge. He would not be happy with Todd's behavior as scriptures make that clear in Malachi 2:16 WEB states that He hates divorce.
However, you should not take matters into your own hands or manipulate situations, such as asking God to send dreams to Todd. While God can work in mysterious ways, it is not for us to dictate how He should intervene. It is good you brought your requests in Jesus' name, for the bible tells us “For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.” We are also told “For whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.” It is good you have the basics of salvation covered you mentioned your devotion to Christ. The basis of our salvation is belief in Jesus Christ and knowing him.
We discussed some aspects of the devil's behavior. When Jesus taught the disciples to pray he taught them “ And do not bring us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one “. He did not say deliver us from evil but the evil one and this should be a reminder to all Christians of the daily struggles we face with the devil as those struggles are real.
Instead, pray that God will soften Todd's heart and guide him back to a path that honors your marriage and God's will. As our Savior put it in Matthew 19vs6 WEB: “6 So then they are no more two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no man separate,”. As Matthew 18:19 WEB tells us “Again, assuredly I tell you, that if two of you will agree on earth concerning anything that they will ask, it will be done for them by my Father who is in heaven. " we as a group agree together that it is God's will to save your marriage and if God wills it so then it will be done.
Regarding Todd's mom gossiping, it is important to pray for her and the situation, rather than trying to bind her. As it is written in Ephesians 6:12 WEB: "For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world’s rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places."
Pray that God will convict her heart and guide her to act in a manner that honors Him.
Here is a heartfelt prayer for you:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You today, lifting up our sister in Christ who is hurting and struggling in her marriage. Lord, we pray for Todd, that You will soften his heart and open his eyes to the truth. We pray that You will guide him back to a path that honors his marriage and Your will. Lord, we also pray for Todd's mom, that You will convict her heart and guide her to act in a manner that honors You.
Father we ask that you give our sister strength, that you can and will remove the pain of these hurtful actions from her emotions and let her emotion start fresh and free from any mental anguish over this and she can maintain and attitude of expectance of your good will. We ask that you can work in Todd to remove anything that is animosity from Todd or that you bring forth life loving people to aid Todd to bring these things forth.
Lord, we pray that You will guide our sister in Christ, that You will give her dreams and visions as You will, and that You will give her the strength and wisdom to navigate this situation in a manner that honors You.
Please keep her safe Lord as this situation does indicate Todd is potentially violent or could become violent and the same for any life loving people you have involved or send to speak and work with Todd. We ask that Todd can be brought to know the Lord Jesus Christ as he appears to not know him and it appears he does not fully know God. In the end it is still hard for us to say this as it is Your judgement of whether someone knows or does not know the Lord Jesus Christ. We ask that if Todd does know You in spirit, Lord, that it will be clearly brought forth that Todd does know You. We ask that you forgive our sister of her sins and save her relationship with Todd for Your Will.
In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
Stay strong in the Lord, and remember that God is faithful and loves you deeply. Keep praying, trusting, and obeying Him, and He will guide you through this storm. Do not be afraid of suffering as suffering is part of what it means to be a Christian “2 Timothy 3:12 WEB “Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.” We know why there is suffering as some times it is directly a Christian living in a sinful world and sometimes the devil has specific plans using other awfully wicked people to cause hurt for his own purposes.
Be alert that the devil works in this way as he also works as roaring lion. 1 Peter 5 WEB Be sober and self-controlled. Be watchful. Your adversary the devil, walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.
